Carlos Alcaraz put on an impressive performance in the second round of Wimbledon, easily overcoming home player Oliver Tarvet 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 on the evening of July 2. The victory came after a tense opening match that lasted five sets for the No. 2 seed.
Despite a tough first-round match against Fabio Fognini, the Spaniard dominated his first match against Tarvet, who is ranked 733rd in the world . Alcaraz hit 37 winners and broke his opponent's serve six times, extending his career-best winning streak to 20 matches.

Speaking after the match, Alcaraz praised his opponent: “I have to give credit to Oliver, this is only his second match on the ATP. Honestly, I really like the way he plays. The level he showed in his first match on Centre Court, which I know is really difficult, he played a great game. I knew from the beginning that I had to be really focused, to play my best. Today I played great and I am really happy with the way I played."
With 16 straight wins at Wimbledon, the defending champion became the fastest man in the Open Era to reach 30 wins on grass after his win over Fognini. His 31st win on grass on the sunny Centre Court puts Alcaraz in good stead for the third round, where he will face either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Jan-Lennard Struff.
The win over Tarvet also means the Spaniard has won 30 consecutive matches at Wimbledon and Roland Garros combined, with his last defeat at any major European tournament coming at Roland Garros in 2023. He has won the last two Wimbledons (2023 and 2024) and the French Open (2024 and 2025).
With this achievement, Alcaraz became the youngest male player in the Open Era - at 22 years and 56 days - to achieve a streak of 30 consecutive wins at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. The five-time major champion broke Bjorn Borg's record when the Swedish legend won his 30th consecutive Roland Garros and Wimbledon at the age of 22 years and 356 days.

Alcaraz added on his playing philosophy: “I have found the right way to try to enjoy every game. When I step on the pitch, I just try to enjoy it. It doesn’t matter if I win or lose. That’s been the key in the last two or three months, I’ve had a great winning streak and I just enjoy it.”
The No. 2 seed is aiming to join the legendary Bjorn Borg as only the second man in history to win the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in consecutive years. He is also aiming to become the fifth man to lift three consecutive Wimbledon titles.
As for Tarvet, the 21-year-old former college tennis player for the University of San Diego, he qualified for his major tournament debut. He defeated Leandro Riedi in the first round and showed flashes of brilliance against Alcaraz, hitting some stunning winners in the second set. However, Tarvet could not cope with Alcaraz’s power and flair, as the world No. 2 ended his run in 2 hours and 17 minutes.
Alcaraz is chasing his sixth title of the season, having won his fifth Grand Slam title at Roland Garros, as well as ATP Masters 1000 titles in Monte Carlo and Rome. Earlier this month, he also won his second at The Queen's Club.
