China Daily reported that a serious traffic accident occurred near Zhongshan Road in downtown Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, at around 11 a.m. on July 1.
"A traffic accident occurred near Zhongshan Road in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, leaving six people dead or injured," the Traffic Police Department of Guangzhou City Public Security Bureau informed.
After receiving reports of the accident, police quickly arrived at the scene and helped take the injured to the hospital for emergency treatment.
According to preliminary investigation, the 64-year-old driver surnamed Chen lost control of the car due to looking at his phone while driving, leading to a serious accident.
Driver Chen was later restrained by police, and the possibility of the driver driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs has been ruled out.
Police are investigating the accident.
