Ferrari ditches navigation because phone maps are better

The Italian automaker has finally realized that smartphones are better at navigation and is planning to completely remove the feature from its cars, Emanuele Carando, Ferrari's product marketing director, revealed.

According to Emanuele Carando, the phone mirroring feature on the entertainment screen is the most user-friendly and up-to-date, making the dedicated map system pre-installed in the car redundant and obsolete.

Ferrari knows that owners don't use their cars as daily commuters, so it thought it was redundant to have a built-in navigation system in the car.

According to Mr. Carando, the majority of people around the world own smartphones, and they are the most useful thing that everyone uses in their cars.

It's been about a decade since Apple CarPlay and Android Auto debuted, and both software have become must-have features on almost every new car today.

While automakers have struggled for years to deliver a good user experience with their proprietary and expensive software systems, none have done better than Apple CarPlay and Android Auto when it comes to navigation and hands-free voice technology.

There are also automakers that think the opposite. General Motors recently announced that it will stop supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in favor of its own software.

However, this announcement caused a backlash from GM car owners.

For Ferrari, stripping away the excess represents a consistent philosophy of giving customers what they want.
