Vietnam Airlines has just officially launched its first direct flight connecting Hanoi with Milan (Italy), bringing the total number of direct flights of the airline to Europe to 10.

The grand opening ceremony at Milan Malpensa Airport took place with the presence of VicePresident Vo Thi Anh Xuan, representatives of the Lombardy regional government and airport leaders.

Accordingly, flight VN73 departed from Hanoi at 00:45 on July 1, carrying 155 passengers, landing safely in Milan at 7:40 a.m. (local time). Following that, flight VN72 departed from Milan at 12:45 p.m. on July 1 and landed at Noi Bai International Airport at 4:35 a.m. on July 2 (local time).

The Hanoi-Milan route will be operated by Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft, with three round-trip flights per week on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with a total flight time of nearly 12 hours per leg. Milan is Italy's second largest economic hub and an important gateway to southwestern Europe. The city will serve as a strategic gateway in Vietnam Airlines' flight network, providing passengers with convenient access to destinations across Europe.

The new route facilitates the promotion of two-way passenger traffic between Vietnam and Italy in particular, while consolidating Vietnam Airlines' market share on the route between Vietnam and European countries.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Italy is one of the top 10 fastest growing markets in 2024, with the number of visitors increasing by 155% compared to 2023. No longer having to transit through a third country will help enhance the experience, while also creating momentum for the number of visitors from Italy to Vietnam to increase dramatically in the coming years.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, shared: “The launch of the Hanoi-Milan direct flight route not only shortens the geographical distance but also opens up great opportunities for tourism development and economic exchange between Vietnam and Italy - one of the potential European markets. This is Vietnam Airlines' contribution to the strategic step in the journey to realize the goal of welcoming 22-23 million international visitors in 2025 of the Vietnamese tourism industry.”

With this new route, passengers from Vietnam can also easily set foot in the "land of great heritages", exploring cities rich in identity such as Rome, Florence, Venice, and countless quintessences of Italian art. In return, Italian tourists will have more opportunities to experience unique destinations in Vietnam such as Hanoi, Ha Long, Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City, thanks to fast and convenient flights.

Not only does it have commercial significance, the Hanoi-Milan direct flight also demonstrates Vietnam Airlines’ role as a companion in the journey to expand the nation’s soft borders. Each flight crosses geographical space to bring our country deeper into the world.

In the era of deep integration, the expansion of Vietnam Airlines' flight network is a symbol of a dynamic Vietnam, ready to grow strongly, connecting with friends around the world through sustainable aviation bridges./.
