Vietnam earns 33.8 billion USD from agricultural exports, trade with the US increases sharply

Export turnover agriculture, forestry and fishery (NLTS) in June 2025 is estimated at 5.9 billion USD, an increase of 5.3% compared to June 2024; bringing the total export turnover of NLTS in the first 6 months of 2025 to 33.8 billion USD.

Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, said: “The market structure has changed significantly. This year, the US market has increased sharply compared to previous years, overwhelming China’s market share, creating a balance between the US and Chinese markets.”

Besides increased exports, import also increased equivalently, the import turnover of NLTS in June is estimated at 4.21 billion USD, up 11% over the same period in 2024; bringing the total import turnover of NLTS in the first 6 months of the year to 24 billion USD, up 15% over the same period in 2024.

By region, Vietnam imports the most NLTS products from markets in Asia and America with market shares of 31% and 24.7% respectively. Compared to the same period last year, Vietnam's NLTS import turnover in the first 6 months of the year from Asia increased by 21.8%; America increased by 11%.

China and the US are the two largest markets supplying agricultural products to Vietnam.

In the context of the current economic and political situation in the world and in the country, Mr. Phung Duc Tien said, "The policy of "Developing the agricultural sector according to the agricultural economic value chain from production to processing to create added value, enhance product competitiveness and develop the market, solve product output in the domestic and export markets" continues to be the consistent orientation in implementing the Strategy for developing Vietnam's agricultural sector in the new period."

To continue increasing value, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment focuses on proactively Develop, implement and adjust production plans according to the value chain, respond appropriately and promptly to market developments, to limit supply-demand imbalances and price fluctuations.
