(Dan Tri) - Kiev announced that it will do everything possible to maintain relations with Washington after US President Donald Trump suspended all military aid to Ukraine.

"We will continue to work with the United States through all available channels calmly. We have only one plan: to win and survive. Either we win, or someone else will write a plan B," Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on March 4.

He also asserted that Ukraine still had enough reserves to supply its frontline forces. "Our army and government have the capabilities and the means to maintain the situation on the frontline," he said.

He stressed that US military aid is valuable, helping save thousands of lives, and Kiev will do everything possible to maintain relations with Washington.

However, Mr. Shmyhal also admitted that any US decision to stop military aid to Ukraine would put the use of Patriot air defense systems at risk due to risks in repair, maintenance and ammunition supply.

The US-supplied Patriot is the only system Ukraine possesses capable of repelling Russian ballistic missile attacks.

On March 3, US media quoted a White House official confirming that President Donald Trump had ordered the suspension of all military aid until Ukrainian leaders showed a clear commitment to peace negotiations with Russia.

The decision came just days after a heated exchange of words between Mr Trump and his counterpart Zelensky at the White House over the war between Ukraine and Russia. Mr Trump said the Ukrainian leader was not ready for peace and could not negotiate.

The Polish Foreign Ministry said the Trump administration made the decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine without consulting its allies.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the US decision made Europe in general, Ukraine and Poland in particular, fall into a more difficult situation.

Ukraine was also completely surprised by Washington's move. Olena Bilova, a 47-year-old lawyer in Kiev, hopes that the US and the European Union will "not abandon" Ukraine.

"US support is important for protecting the skies, and financial support affects the economy and social morale, which is also important for the front line," said Serhii Filimonov, commander of the 108th Special Mechanized Battalion, which has been fighting for months near the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk.

Ukrainian officers hope European allies will step up in the absence of the United States.

“In the future, much of the support will depend on European allies,” said the 46th Independent Airborne Brigade of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko expressed disappointment with the Trump administration's decision and called on Kiev to apologize and mend relations.
