For example, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) plans to have an admission threshold of 18-20 points for admission methods. This threshold applies to the following methods: admission based on the results of the 2025 high school exam; priority for admission of students from 149 high schools according to the list of regulations of Ho Chi Minh City National University; priority for direct admission of the best candidates in high schools in 2025; priority for admission of students who are members of provincial and municipal teams participating in the national excellent student exam or winning first, second, third, or consolation prizes in provincial and municipal excellent student exams; candidates with achievements in social, cultural, and sports activities. As for the admission method based on the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam, the school plans to receive applications from 620 points or higher.
Sharing more, Master Nguyen Thao Chi, Head of the Department of Communication and Event Management, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, said that the school built this score threshold based on the score distribution results last year. Therefore, if necessary, the school will adjust the admission score threshold to match the actual score distribution situation this year.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) uses 95 - 99% of its quota for the combined admission method. The admission formula includes academic scores and priority points. In which, academic scores include the following components: registration score (accounting for 70%), converted high school graduation score (accounting for 20%) and converted high school study score (accounting for 10%). Priority points include achievements (literature - sports - arts, social activities, other achievements) and target area. Notably, the school calculates this method on a 100-point scale and the threshold to ensure input quality is 50 points.
Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hoai Thang, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, informed that candidates applying to the school only need to achieve a total score of 50/100 to be eligible for admission. The school does not specify the minimum threshold for each academic component as before. Last year, candidates applying to the school needed to achieve a capacity assessment score of 600/1,200, a high school graduation exam score of 18/30, and a high school study score of 54/90 (total score of 3 subjects according to the admission combination in 3 years of high school).
The University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) also announced the admission threshold based on the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam. According to the expected information, candidates who take the exam in 2025 and score 700 points or more are eligible for admission to all majors of the university. The admission score includes the exam score, bonus points and priority points, in which the maximum bonus point is 120 points for candidates with international language certificates according to the university's regulations. With the method of considering high school graduation exam scores, the university plans to accept applications for admission based on the total score of subjects in the group from 22.5 or more. For the microchip design major, the total score of subjects in the admission group must be at least 24 (in which the math subject must be at least 8 points).
This year's high school graduation exam, math and English are considered difficult.
INPUT THRESHOLDS FOR SPECIAL INDUSTRIES
Notably, some universities have set their own admission thresholds for specific training majors, which are higher than the thresholds for other majors. This regulation applies to different methods, including considering high school grades or competency assessment exams.
For example, recently Ton Duc Thang University (HCMC) announced the expected admission score threshold for the admission method based on the results of the high school learning process in 2025. This method considers the results of high school learning for 6 semesters according to the subject combination and other academic achievements. With the English university program, students can apply for admission based on the subject combination with an international English certificate. Calculated on a 40-point scale (combination of 3 subjects, including a coefficient of 2 main subjects), the expected admission score for each major ranges from 22 to 30. However, in addition to this general regulation, many majors have additional conditional subject scores calculated based on the average of 6 semesters. For example, for law, PhDs need to achieve a score of 6.0 or higher in literature, and 6.5 or higher in computer science and mathematics... However, a representative of Ton Duc Thang University noted that this is an expected score threshold for PhDs to refer to, the official score threshold will be announced by the school after the 2025 high school graduation exam results are available according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry also announced the minimum score for receiving applications, including the law group. Accordingly, the admission method uses the results of the competency assessment exam by Ho Chi Minh City National University in 2025, the threshold to ensure input quality for general majors is from 650 points and for majors with English enhancement programs is 600 points. For the law group, the minimum score for receiving applications is 720, at the same time, the Vietnamese component in the competency assessment exam is at least 180 points and the math component is at least 180 points.
With the admission method using the results of high school study in grade 12 combined with outstanding achievements, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry also offers a score for receiving applications based on the average score of the entire grade 12 report card of the 3 subjects in the admission group. The threshold for receiving applications is from 21 points, with the pharmacy major receiving applications from 24 points and having a good grade 12 academic performance. For the law major group, the minimum admission score for math and literature is 6.0. The admission score threshold for majors at the Quang Ngai Branch of the school is lower.
Also related to this threshold, Master Cu Xuan Tien, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said that the school will announce the threshold score for admission methods immediately after the Ministry of Education and Training announces the high school graduation exam score distribution. Notably, this year the school has a threshold for admission to law majors according to general regulations, including a minimum score for math. Last year, the floor score for high school graduation exam scores to enter the school was 21 according to a combination of 3 subjects.
In addition, universities recruiting health sciences and teacher training majors also remind candidates of the threshold for ensuring input quality according to the general regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. For example, the University of Health Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) uses 3 admission methods. In which, with the admission method based on the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam, candidates must have excellent 12th grade study results. For nursing, candidates must have good 12th grade study results or better.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education also noted the admission threshold for English pedagogy and technology pedagogy according to the threshold regulations for teacher training majors. For the law major, students also need to meet the training program standards of the legal field, in which the total minimum admission score is 60% of the maximum assessment score of the scale. Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education also provides admission thresholds for each specific method.
With the admission method based on high school transcripts, the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the University of Transport has specific regulations. The school uses the total score of 3 subjects in the admission combination in 6 semesters of high school (math score multiplied by 2) for admission. In which, no subject average score is below 5.5 points in each school year. In addition, in some majors, when considering admission, the school uses an additional criterion of requiring candidates to have a physics subject score with an average score of all 3 years of high school of 5.5 or higher. This condition applies to majors in the technical field.
