On June 29, the Investigation Police Agency of Tam Ky City ( Quang Nam ) announced that it had just issued a decision to temporarily detain 3 subjects, including Huynh Linh Bon (born in 1998, residing in Tam Thang Commune, Tam Ky City) for the act of "Organizing gambling"; Pham Ngoc Cuong (born in 1982, residing in Tam Dan Commune, Phu Ninh District, Quang Nam) and Nguyen Van Phu (born in 1997, residing in Tam Thang Commune, Tam Ky) for the act of "Gambling".
Through the investigation, the Criminal Police Department of Tam Ky City Police discovered that during the 2024 European Football Championship (EURO) and the 2024 South American Football Cup (Copa America), many people participated in an online football betting ring.
On June 27, the Criminal Police Team coordinated with Tam Thang Commune Police, Tam Ky City and Tam Dan Commune Police, Phu Ninh District to summon and work with the subjects to clarify the above behavior.
Initial investigation results determined that Huynh Linh Bon created many betting accounts on the internet, then gave them to "underlings" to gamble.
From June 15 until they were discovered, the subjects had bet on many matches with a total transaction amount of about 1 billion VND. The seized evidence included 10 mobile phones of various types and many documents related to organizing gambling and online gambling activities.
The Tam Ky City Police Department is continuing to consolidate the case file and expand the investigation to handle related subjects according to the law.
