With the goal of conquering the Premier League championship after 21 years of waiting, Arsenal has promoted the reinforcement of the force since the beginning of the summer. The "Gunners" have spent about 80 million pounds to successfully recruit three new players Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga but are still focusing all their efforts on the key deal Viktor Gyokeres.
Viktor Gyokeres played very effectively for Sporting Lisbon
According to Portuguese media, the recruitment of striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon still has some problems, mainly about the additional fee (additional bonus), but the deal has shown many positive signs.
Sporting Lisbon are demanding a bonus of up to £8.7 million while Arsenal are reluctant to pay more than the total transfer fee of around £62.4 million. Previously, Sporting rejected the Gunners' offer of £60 million and asked for an increase in the price, along with Arsenal's request to increase the down payment.
Gyokeres says he only wants to join Arsenal
According to Viktor Gyokeres' representative, Sporting Lisbon and the player have a "verbal agreement" under which the club must negotiate with any party that makes an offer of £52m plus £8.7m in add-ons or more. If they do not meet their commitment, Sporting will have to pay £870,000 for each offer.
Arsenal's offer has now exceeded that figure and Sporting are forced to sit down at the negotiating table. Gyökeres has also expressed his desire to leave while still in Sweden instead of going to Portugal to join the team from July 12. Thus, to have Gyokeres' service, Arsenal will have to pay a fixed fee of 54.8 million pounds, plus 8.7 million pounds in additional fees (total 63.5 million) in installments.
Sporting president Frederico Varandas deliberately prevented Gyokeres' departure
Sporting president Frederico Varandas has reportedly denied any such "secret deal" and has been accused of "delaying" the deal to wait for further offers from other clubs. However, Gyokeres only wants to play for Arsenal and the English club have been trying to agree on a transfer fee.
Gyökeres' agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has agreed to waive his 10% commission to help ease Arsenal's financial burden. Hasan Cetinkaya has flown to London to finalise personal terms for the Swedish striker. If all goes well, Gyökeres will sign a five-year contract with Arsenal. The London club hope to complete the deal this week in time to take the new Swede on his pre-season tour of Asia.
Coach Mikel Arteta wants to complete the deal before the summer tour in Asia
Last season, Gyokeres scored 54 goals for Sporting in all competitions, and is considered one of the most effective strikers in Europe today. Joining Sporting from Coventry in 2023 for £20 million, he has scored a total of 97 goals in 102 matches in just two seasons. Before that, Gyokeres had an unsuccessful time at Brighton, scoring just one goal in three and a half years.
Martin Zubimendi joins Arsenal for £55m
According to The Athletic , Arsenal are speeding up negotiations to buy centre-back Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia for a fee of around £26 million, keeping 18-year-old talent Ethan Nwaneri with a new contract, preparing to welcome striker Noni Madueke from Chelsea for £52 million and ready to chase the signature of midfielder Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
