A giant leap from traditional to digital
Digital economy , a once unfamiliar concept, has now become an important driving force for development in Vietnam. With a young population, modern technical infrastructure and rapid industrial development, Bac Ninh is considered one of the localities with ideal conditions to transform from a traditional economic model to a digital economy.
E-commerce, including online shopping, cashless payments, and product promotion via digital marketplaces, is gradually becoming a mainstream trend. Especially for small and medium-sized enterprises, individual businesses, and cooperatives, this is not only an option but also the key to opening the door to new growth.
The story of FUJIKO Vietnam Pharmaceutical Company Limited is a typical example. Established in 2016, this business used to sell mainly through traditional channels. However, since approaching digital platforms - especially e-commerce platforms - FUJIKO has recorded positive changes in sales, brand and management methods. By applying technology to the supply chain, from production to distribution, FUJIKO has optimized operating costs, reduced intermediaries and accessed large domestic and foreign markets.
Mr. Luong Duc Bang, Director of FUJIKO Vietnam Pharmaceutical Company Limited, shared that with just over 10 employees, FUJIKO is currently operating a production line with a capacity of extracting up to 50 tons of turmeric powder per batch, equivalent to 300 tons of fresh turmeric. With this sales method, the cost is less than traditional channels. Employees only need to sit in the office to reach many customers without going through intermediaries.
Not only a place to sell, e-commerce has also become an effective market analysis tool. Through data on purchasing and customer feedback, businesses reshape their production strategies based on trends and consumption habits of each customer group, thereby identifying key products, high-demand areas, and times to promote, which the traditional business model previously took a lot of time and money to do.
Ms. Doan Minh Ngoc, owner of Ngoc Ceramics, Phu Lang Commune, Que Vo Town, affirmed that through the e-commerce platform, the number of customers is quite high. Through the needs of customers, businesses can define the target audience for their products. From there, businesses will know what age groups to provide for, and what products to focus on. Using that data to find target customers is very easy.
Boost from infrastructure to support policies
E-commerce needs a solid foundation from technical infrastructure to support policies to develop rapidly and sustainably. Bac Ninh is currently a strongly developed industrial province, with a synchronous telecommunications system, the rate of people using the Internet and smartphones reaching over 85%. This is an important factor helping e-commerce develop strongly, not only as a modern sales channel but also as a tool to help people and businesses enter the digital economy comprehensively.
Statistics from the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Ninh province show that in the past three years, the number of cooperatives and production households participating in e-commerce has doubled. Mr. Mai Duc Trung, representative of the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Ninh province, said that digital transformation in enterprises has taken place very quickly in recent times. From online advertising, online trading to electronic payments, these activities have become common habits in the business community and people in the area. Many units have revenue from online sales accounting for up to 70% of total income. Some businesses have a sales rate through e-commerce channels of up to 90%.
To support businesses and people to keep up with the e-commerce trend, recently the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Ninh has implemented many practical programs from training in online sales skills, digital transformation for small businesses to supporting digital branding and registering genuine booths on the platforms.
Not only that, Bac Ninh also cooperated with relevant agencies to deploy a series of support solutions such as electronic tax declaration and payment; online bidding; electronic customs declaration; promoting cashless payments. This is the foundation for a comprehensive, convenient, transparent and effective e-commerce ecosystem.
Another indispensable factor is logistics infrastructure, an essential link in e-commerce operations. Bac Ninh is gradually forming a freight forwarding network connecting production areas to warehouses and consumers. The participation of large domestic and foreign freight forwarding enterprises has contributed to reducing costs and shortening transportation times, especially for inter-provincial orders or high-value goods.
Currently, when Bac Ninh and Bac Giang province are preparing for a new development phase, aiming to merge and form a new economic dynamic region in the North, achievements in digital transformation not only play a fundamental role but also a strategic competitive advantage. When the spirit of solidarity, the desire to rise up and innovate are combined with technological strength, the (new) Bac Ninh province will have more motivation to develop breakthroughs, build a modern digital government, a sustainable digital economy and a comprehensive digital society - where people are the center, the real subject of innovation.
