The affected areas are residential areas located outside the flood protection dykes along the banks of the Chao Phraya River in the provinces of Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Suphanburi, Lopburi, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Bangkok.

On September 26, Thailand's Royal Irrigation Department said it would gradually increase the dam's water discharge above the current level of 1,498 cubic meters per second due to continuous heavy rain and flows from the north.

The adjustment will be done in stages but limited to 2,000 cubic metres per second. This will raise the water level of the Phong Pheng canal in Ang Thong province, the Bang Ban canal and the Noi river in Ayutthaya province by 1-1.5 metres.

Rising water levels could also cause canals and tributaries flowing from these waterways to overflow, the report added.

As of 7 a.m. on September 26, the water level at station C2 in Muang district of Nakhon Sawan province had increased by 21 cm compared to the previous day, but was still 3.29 m lower than the bank. The flow rate at this station was 1,846 m3/s.

At station C3, or Chao Phraya Dam, in Chai Nat province, the water level rose slightly but was still 3.52m below the bank. The flow rate at the station was 1,498 m3/s.

Nation TV reported on September 26 that flooding caused by the Ping River in Mueang district, Chiang Mai was even worse than in 2011.

The Ping River in Meuang District, Chiang Mai flooded many residential and commercial areas in the district on the night of September 25, including San Pa Khoi Market, Charoen Prathet Street and Night Bazaar.

It is expected that at least 2,000 households will be affected by the floods, especially those in and around the night market, where water levels exceeded 1 meter.

Street vendors struggled to keep their goods from being submerged in water, while small vehicles were unable to pass through the stretch from Nong Hoi to Nawarat Bridge.
