During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh once advised: “War invalids, sick soldiers, and families of martyrs are people who have contributed to the Fatherland and the People. Therefore, our duty is to be grateful, to love and to help them”. Taking Uncle Ho's teachings to heart, every July, Ha Tien youth have many meaningful and practical activities to show gratitude to heroic martyrs, war invalids, sick soldiers, heroic Vietnamese mothers, and people who have contributed to the revolution. In the sweltering summer sun, nearly 100 union members and young people cleaned the grounds of Ha Tien Martyrs Cemetery, some pulling weeds, others cleaning tombstones, changing flowers, sweeping the paths... Sweat rolled down their faces, but did not dim the bright smiles of the youth. “Every year on this occasion, we voluntarily go to the cemetery, not only to decorate the graves but also to remind ourselves to never forget the contributions of the generations of ancestors who died for the country,” said Mr. Tran Van Tai, a resident of Ha Tien ward.

On the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27), the Party Committee, government and people of Ha Tien ward held a ceremony to offer incense and light candles to pay tribute to the graves of heroic martyrs at the Ha Tien Martyrs Cemetery. To prepare for this important event, in recent days, union members and youth in the ward have made flower lanterns. “In addition to flower lanterns, we also prepared flowers to offer to the souls of heroic martyrs. In front of the souls of heroic martyrs, Ha Tien youth promise to continue to live beautifully, live usefully, preserve and promote the traditions of their heroic homeland,” said Ms. Duong Thi Ngoc Huyen, a resident of Ha Tien ward.

In mid-July, the house of Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - a 4/4 war invalid, residing in Quarter 3, Ha Tien Ward, became more bustling when the union members and young people came to visit. Meeting the union members, Mr. Hieu's face was radiant as if he was meeting a relative, his hands tightly holding the hands of the young people as if conveying a belief. "In recent years, on the occasion of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day, union members and young people in the ward have come to visit and share the achievements of the Youth Union during the year, which touched me a lot. Knowing that today's young generation does not forget those who shed blood for the Fatherland, I feel my heart warmed," said Mr. Hieu.

Not stopping at memorial activities, Ha Tien ward also promotes propaganda of the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State on policies for people with meritorious services, and the movement of gratitude among union members and youth. Many thematic activities, exchanges and discussions with veterans; tours and visits to historical sites... are organized, helping the younger generation better understand the sacrifices of their fathers and grandfathers. Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward, Secretary of the Ha Tien ward Youth Union Tran Tan Phat said: "Having the life we have today, Ha Tien youth never forget the contributions of heroic martyrs, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and people with meritorious services to the revolution. To express deep gratitude, union members and youth constantly strive to study, work, produce, vow to unite, promote patriotism, and strive to build a comprehensively developed homeland".

July - the season of gratitude is an occasion for Ha Tien youth to remember and be grateful, and also an opportunity to foster patriotism and cultivate ideals for the younger generation. Through concrete and meaningful actions, union members and youth step by step continue the historical source, uphold national ethics and, most importantly, spread the flame of gratitude in the community, so that this tradition will be passed on forever.
