Releasing more than 395 thousand aquatic species into Dong Nai River

(DN) - On June 25, the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Dong Nai province held a conference to launch, propagate and implement the release of aquatic species and the regeneration of aquatic resources into natural waters in the Dong Nai river area.

On this occasion, more than 395 thousand individuals such as shrimp, loach, snakehead fish, catfish, goby, and bream were released into the Dong Nai River.

For many years, Dong Nai province has maintained the annual fish release to regenerate aquatic resources. This activity has received widespread support from all walks of life. Aquaculture release activities are mainly carried out in two locations: Dong Nai River area and Long Thanh - Nhon Trach mangrove forest. These are two of the province's key water areas with major development in the aquaculture industry.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang emphasized that natural aquatic resources in the province are increasingly declining seriously in both species composition and output due to the impact of nature and humans. Some fish species have been lost, some species are facing the risk of extinction in the wild.

This activity of releasing fish into the wild aims to launch the movement "All people participate in protecting and regenerating aquatic resources, joining hands to release aquatic species into natural waters" to contribute to the restoration and regeneration of aquatic resources. Thereby, turning the release of fish to regenerate aquatic resources into a practical emulation movement to contribute to the restoration and regeneration of aquatic species populations that are declining in the wild, supplementing aquatic resources of species with economic value, indigenous, endemic to natural waters...
