According to Resolution No. 1191/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of district and commune-level administrative units of Bac Giang province in the 2023-2025 period, Chu town will be established.

Chu town was established on the basis of a natural area of ​​251.55 km2 and a population of 127,881 people of 10 commune-level administrative units of Luc Ngan district, including Chu town and the communes of Hong Giang, Kien Lao, Kien Thanh, My An, Nam Duong, Quy Son, Phuong Son, Thanh Hai, Tru Huu.

After its establishment, Chu town had 10 commune-level administrative units including 5 wards: Chu, Hong Giang, Phuong Son, Thanh Hai, Tru Huu and 5 communes: Kien Lao, Kien Thanh, My An, Nam Duong, Quy Son.

The Resolution takes effect from January 1, 2025.

According to the unofficial list of towns in Vietnam by Vietnamese Wikipedia, Chu is the town with the shortest name in Vietnam, one word and 3 letters. Other towns usually have two words and 4 letters or more.
