Lamine Yamal is in trouble. |
Taking place on the Mediterranean coast, Yamal’s party last week attracted a star-studded guest list including Gavi and Alejandro Balde, as well as a star-studded line-up including Bizarrap, Duki, Ozuna and Bad Gyal. Yamal was even gifted a £300,000 necklace by rapper El Alfa – a pricey gift befitting the rising star’s stardom.
However, the party's bright atmosphere was quickly overshadowed after the ADEE Association (Spanish Association of Dwarfism and Skeletal Dysplasia) issued an official statement, denouncing Yamal for hiring dwarfs as entertainment at a personal event.
“We strongly condemn the practice of hiring people with dwarfism for entertainment purposes. It is a serious insult to the dignity of disabled people, reproducing outdated stereotypes and abetting discrimination,” ADEE said in a statement.
The organization said it would take legal and social measures to hold Yamal and those involved accountable to the public.
ADEE President Carolina Puente also could not hide her indignation: “It is unacceptable that people with dwarfism continue to be treated as entertainment at private parties - especially when it comes from an influential public figure like Lamine Yamal.”
While public opinion is divided, Yamal has yet to respond to the accusations.

Legally, hiring people with dwarfism for entertainment purposes is not prohibited in Spain, but morally, it is strongly condemned. In 2023, the Spanish Parliament even issued a complete ban on bullfighting involving dwarfs, in order to protect the dignity and rights of people with disabilities.
In countries like Canada or the UK, the rules are equally strict: only with explicit consent from the performer is this behavior not considered illegal - although it is still viewed with a wary eye from an ethical standpoint.
Yamal - currently the biggest hope of Spanish football after EURO 2024 - clearly made a big mistake when entering adulthood. Whether intentional or not, this incident could be the first big lesson for a young talent at the peak, but it is also very easy to lose points in the public eye if not alert.
