Attending a free swimming class, we felt the excitement of the children when learning to swim. After a thorough warm-up instruction, the children were allowed to get into the water to practice basic exercises such as breathing in water and swimming with buoys. Nguyen Cao Vu (7 years old) said: "Before, I only knew a little about swimming movements but was not proficient, and I did not swim properly. After 2 weeks of participating in the free swimming class, I was instructed on the correct warm-up movements, how to breathe in water, and the frog and freestyle swimming positions." For Tran Dan Thanh (12 years old), the swimming class was very practical when Thanh was enthusiastically instructed on the correct freestyle swimming skills by the fire police officers. In addition, he and other children in the class were also given knowledge and trained in skills on drowning prevention, water safety skills, etc.
Directly participating in teaching swimming to the children, Captain Nguyen Thanh Minh - an officer of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department said that with 20 children/class, the unit assigned 6 to 7 officers to participate in guiding swimming skills for the children. Each lesson lasted about 1 hour and 30 minutes, the children were taught some basic skills such as practicing breathing properly when in direct contact with water, frog swimming techniques, freestyle swimming; at the same time, instructions on how to handle cramps, first aid for drowning victims. For the learning to be effective, the students were divided into small groups according to each level: knowing how to swim, not yet proficient in swimming and not knowing how to swim. The class not only equipped the children with the necessary skills to ensure safety when playing in the water, but also created a healthy, practical playground for children in the summer. Thereby, contributing to reducing drowning accidents among school-age children. After the first course of the free swimming class ends, the organizers will launch the second course with the next 20 children. The organization of free swimming lessons was advised by the Executive Committee of the Youth Union of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police Department to the department's leaders to implement from the summer of 2024.
