The ceremony to receive the Certificate of Recognition of 82 stone steles of the Le-Mac Dynasty (1442-1779) doctoral examinations took place at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam (Hanoi) on the morning of April 7, 2010. Ceremony to recognize 82 doctoral steles of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam as world documentary heritage

Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung affirmed that the doctoral steles placed at the Temple of Literature are cultural assets of the Vietnamese people and a symbol of honoring the love of learning, the tradition of selecting talents, and nurturing the national spirit of our ancestors from the past to the present. The doctoral steles are recognized by UNESCO as world documentary heritage, showing respect for the national culture. Hopefully this year, we will have more relics recognized as world relics, especially the Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam is a particularly important historical and cultural relic, located in the heart of Hanoi Capital, an eternal symbol of Vietnamese culture and intelligence. With a history of nearly 1000 years, this place has trained thousands of great scholars and talented people for the country. As the largest educational center of our country in ancient times, this place has fostered many precious cultural and educational traditions, including the tradition of studiousness and respect for teachers. The doctoral steles have long been considered one of the priceless cultural heritages left by our ancestors. Moreover, these steles are also a symbol, the most eloquent encouragement to study for the scholars and students of the past and the students of today.

The stone steles of the doctoral examinations of the Le and Mac dynasties are highly appreciated by experts for their content and form. UNESCO experts and international friends all agree to affirm the values ​​contained in the extremely precious cultural heritage of Vietnam, in which the authenticity, unique value, uniqueness as well as the international significance of the doctoral steles stand out. These are stone steles that record the names of those who passed the doctoral examinations that lasted for 300 years from the Early Le Dynasty to the end of the Le and Mac Dynasty.

Regarding the plan to preserve the doctoral steles, Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Hang affirmed that the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam welcomes thousands of domestic and international visitors every day. Therefore, protecting the 82 doctoral steles from being damaged is a necessary task. The Hanoi People's Committee has directed the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam to invest and implement the work of protecting and preserving the heritage in the long term.

At the ceremony, Ms. Katherine Muller Marin - Chief Representative of UNESCO in Vietnam said: “The title of world documentary heritage has affirmed the historical and symbolic significance of the 82 doctoral steles. This heritage has become a part of the cultural identity of the Vietnamese people. I am very happy that today's young generation still cherishes and preserves the memories and heritage of the previous generation. Among the visitors, there are many students. They come here to pay their respects to the doctors of hundreds of years ago and seek spiritual help to overcome the challenges of the present. Looking at the number of visitors here, we can see how powerful the heritage is.

The doctoral steles at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam are honored not only as a recognition of a precious heritage that our ancestors left for Hanoi, but also as part of the beautiful picture of the capital with a thousand years of history and culture.
