Pi (vertical flute): Is a wind instrument, usually made from bamboo or rattan tubes collected from fields, hills, and forests. Many types of Pi are used by young men to call their lovers, to express their love. The Pi Khui sound (in Nghe An ) is a "treasure" for Thai men to call their lovers. Pi is also a sacred object in folk beliefs, following shamans to heaven to call people's souls, bringing the souls of the dead back to the Then realm.
The Pi language of the Thai people is not only music but also a unique cultural and spiritual symbol, containing the philosophy of life and optimism of the people. Currently, the Pi language is being preserved and taught by young people in localities where Thai people live, including Nghe An, contributing to the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values.
