Hot war information on the Chasov-Yarsky front. As of 20:00 (Moscow time, 0:00 Hanoi time) on July 2, some sources on the ground confirmed that the Ukrainian side had lost control of the city of Chasov Yar. Russia's Rybar channel reported massive attacks on the defensive positions of the Ukrainian army (AFU) in the village of Nikolaevka, west of Chasov Yar; and the AFU units there lost their combat capability, suffered heavy losses and were forced to retreat.
The Military Summary channel said that Ukrainian troops have withdrawn from the village of Nikolaevka, located in the western region of the city of Chasov Yar, and confirmed that the 15-month-long battle for the city has effectively ended. Military Summary, citing its own sources on the ground, said that the AFU had retreated from Nikolaevka to the nearby village of Podilske (Krasnoye in Russian). However, units of the RFAF’s 98th Airborne Division had moved in there; it should be noted that this unit has been fighting in Chasov Yar for the past 15 months. In the direction of the village of Chervone, the Ukrainian defense here is more difficult, because the village is located in a low area, while the Russian army controls the high points in the west, capable of controlling this village. Therefore, the future of the Ukrainian defense here can also be easily predicted. But it is too early to say that Russia has taken full control of Chasov Yar, as the remnants of the AFU are still trying to hold out in the Zemlyanki district, southwest of the city's borders. However, the Ukrainian army can only basically hold out in the Zemlyanki mine area, and this hardly means active defense. In essence, this is an attempt to hold even “1 square meter of land”, so that Kiev can assert that they still control the area. This place will certainly become a “navel” attracting Russian firepower. But the Russian army is not sure that it can quickly wipe out the Ukrainian troops defending here.
Chasov Yar is a fortress in the Donetsk defense arc, playing a very important role in the AFU defense plan. Chasov Yar has been able to hold out for the past 15 months, thanks to the special terrain of this city; combined with the fact that the AFU General Staff has deployed many forces here. Military analysts have repeatedly noted that, if Chasov Yar falls, it could collapse the defenses of the entire southern side of the Bakhmut area, and open a bridgehead for the RFAF to directly attack the city of Konstantinovka; and further to Druzhkovka and Kramatorsk. Although the world media has recently been drawn into the Iran-Israel + US conflict and thinks that Russia has paused its offensive in response to US President Donald Trump's call for peace , Kiev has repeatedly stressed that the RFAF's offensive capabilities have been limited, especially on the Donetsk front and other areas such as Sumy. But according to information provided by a Ukrainian military research group, the results are quite the opposite. The group's results show that the RFAF achieved a significant "victory" last month - they occupied 556 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in June, which is the largest area occupied this year. The new territory captured by the Russian army is mainly concentrated on the southern Kostiantynivka front (29% of the total area) and the Pokrovsk front (27%). In addition, the increase in the Sumy region also accounts for 18%. Changes in other regions are relatively scattered, spread over the vast front of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Analysts from Ukrainian research groups, “pointed out” as usual that the RFAF’s offensives came at the cost of “huge losses in personnel,” and they believe that the RFAF is currently facing the challenge of a shortage of troops.
The Ukrainian research team also pointed out that, although the RFAF has deployed more than 100,000 combat troops in the direction of Pokrovsk, it has not yet been able to capture this strategic fortress. The situation in the Sumy region is similar. But according to analysis by Western military experts, if this trend continues, Pokrovsk could fall in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, General Syrsky, Commander-in-Chief of the AFU, said that the Russian attack on Sumy “was effectively stopped”, the AFU not only successfully defended against the enemy's attack, but also launched a new “special military operation” in Russia's Kursk region. . Thus, Kiev seems to be trying to convey the message that the RFAF is having difficulty advancing. However, judging by the data of Ukrainian research groups, the RFAF is not only advancing, but the pace of its advance appears to be accelerating.
According to the Ukrainian side, the RFAF has been carrying out the so-called “summer offensive” for the past two months and has achieved more results, although they also admit that “the effectiveness is decreasing”. However, the relevant data may reflect that, at least until last month, the RFAF was still “setting new records”. In fact, after a period of low-intensity fighting, the RFAF has gradually resumed large-scale military operations. As for whether Russia has really "suffered great losses", it is clearly inaccurate to judge based on Ukrainian information alone. But judging by the changes on the map, Ukraine is indeed gradually losing control of its territory. (photo source Military Review, Ukrinform, Sohu).
