With flexibility and boldness, many farmers in Cam Thach commune (Cam Xuyen, Ha Tinh) have boldly converted and renovated low-productivity lands into economic models with good income.
Mr. Le Cong Tuan (white shirt, in Xuan Loc village, Cam Thach commune) is feeding giant freshwater prawns.
More than 10 years ago, on a semi-mountainous land with low productivity in Xuan Loc village (Cam Thach commune), Mr. Le Cong Tuan (born in 1981) boldly rented more than 7 hectares of land to grow acacia and raise ducks.
By early 2020, when he had some capital in hand, he continued to learn more about the giant freshwater prawn farming model, hoping to increase his family's income. Thinking and doing, Mr. Tuan invested nearly 100 million VND to rent machinery to dig ponds, build embankments to raise 4 ponds, with a water surface area of more than 6,000m2 .
Raising giant freshwater prawns helps Mr. Tuan's family increase income and make the most of the family's available land areas.
The land does not fail the people, through time and effort of care, up to now, Mr. Tuan's economic model has more than 4 hectares of raw acacia forest, generating an income of about 100 million VND/harvest cycle; 1,000 laying ducks, collecting more than 800 eggs per day, earning about 2 million VND. In addition, each year he also sells more than 1 ton of giant freshwater prawns.
From raising ducks, releasing shrimp and growing acacia, each year Mr. Tuan "pockets" more than 350 million VND.
Mr. Tuan excitedly said: “On average, each year, my model generates more than 1 billion VND in revenue, after deducting expenses, the profit is more than 350 million VND. Renting and converting ineffective land areas into farms is the right decision, helping me have land funds to invest in expanding production, exploiting and promoting the full potential of fallow land, avoiding waste and bringing high economic efficiency”.
Black apple snail farming model of Mr. Le Van Loc (Boc Nguyen village, Cam Thach commune).
After more than a year of raising black apple snails, up to now, nearly 3,000m2 of water surface of Mr. Le Van Loc (born in 1994, Boc Nguyen village, Cam Thach commune) has initially brought quite high economic efficiency.
Mr. Loc said: “In 2022, realizing that black apple snails are a highly nutritious dish, popular with people but increasingly scarce in the natural environment, after consulting many models inside and outside the province, I decided to invest in raising this mollusk to increase my family's economic income."
Although he has only been raising black apple snails for over a year, Mr. Loc's black apple snail farming model has brought quite high economic efficiency.
When starting to raise black apple snails, Mr. Loc rented nearly 3,000 square meters of abandoned water surface from the village, and at the same time built a farming system that met technical standards. After completing the farming pond, Mr. Loc divided the area into 3 ponds and released 40,000 snails imported from Hanoi for the first batch.
Mr. Loc shared: “After more than 1 year of raising, I have sold more than 1 ton of commercial snails and more than 350,000 snail seeds, earning nearly 130 million VND. Currently, I have just released 40,000 more snail seeds; the snails are adapting and growing well, expected to be harvested next August, with a yield of nearly 3 tons. This source of income has helped my family stabilize their lives, and have the conditions to expand their scale in the near future.”
Frog farming model of Mr. Tran Van Hieu in Na Trung village (Cam Thach commune).
Having just sold nearly 40,000 frog breeds, earning nearly 40 million VND, Mr. Tran Van Hieu (born in 1960, in Na Trung village, Cam Thach commune) excitedly said: “I started raising frogs in 2022. This is an easy-to-care-for animal, does not take up too much space, and can be raised in any space. I am currently raising them in 5 concrete cages. Each year, selling frog breeds and meat frogs brings my family about 70 million VND in profit. In the near future, I will expand the scale to 10 cages to have enough supply for the market.”
It is known that in addition to raising frogs, Mr. Hieu's family also raises 10 goats and 6 tanks of eels; each year, raising goats, eels and frogs brings Mr. Hieu's family more than 120 million VND, helping the family stabilize their lives and become a well-off household in the locality.
The entire Cam Thach commune currently has 15 economic models in many fields, of which 10 models generate income from 120 - 350 million VND.
Mr. Truong Quang Thuan - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Cam Thach commune said: "Currently, the whole commune has 15 economic models in many fields, of which 10 models generate income from 120 - 350 million VND/year. The models have received initial support from the commune in terms of capital, production process... and are gradually growing, contributing greatly to the development of the commune, especially the process of building new rural areas.
In the coming time, the locality will encourage people to accumulate land to form specialized production areas, producing in the direction of high technology with plants and animals with high productivity and economic value.
