Many streets in Ho Chi Minh City will be named after leaders.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just sent a document to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requesting opinions on naming streets, public works and adjusting the routes of some roads in the area.


This proposal is part of a plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

Specifically, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee proposed naming 11 streets in District 12 as follows: Phan Van Hum for Trung My Tay 13 Street; Nguyen Thi Tren for Trung My Tay 2A Street; Dong Tien for Trung My Tay 7A Street; Ba Du for Thoi An 03 Street; Tran Van Lam for Thoi An 06 Street; Le Thi Anh for Tan Thoi Nhat 21 Street; Tham The Ha for D32 Street; Huynh Tan Chua for D1 Street; Nam Dinh for D27 Street; Nguyen Van Van for Hiep Thanh 11 Street and Tan Thanh for N1 Street.

In Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City proposed to adjust the route of Dam Than Huy street to extend from Doc Lap street to Le Thuc Hoach street; Nguyen Xuan Khoat street to extend from Tran Hung Dao street to Le Van Phan street.

Ho Chi Minh City also proposed naming some sections of national highways after leaders and commanders of historical campaigns. Specifically, naming the section of National Highway 1 (from Thu Duc intersection to An Suong intersection) after Do Muoi; the section of National Highway 1 (from An Suong intersection to An Lac roundabout) after Le Duc Anh; the section of National Highway 1 (from An Lac roundabout to the border of Long An province) after Le Kha Phieu; the section of National Highway 1K (from National Highway 1 to the border of Binh Duong province) after Hoang Cam; the section of National Highway 50 (from Nguyen Van Linh Street to the border of Long An province) after Van Tien Dung; the section of National Highway 22 (from National Highway 1 to An Ha bridge) after Le Quang Dao; and the section of National Highway 22 (from An Ha bridge to the border of Tay Ninh province) after Phan Van Khai.

For public works in District 1 and Thu Duc City, the City People's Committee proposed to name the park in front of Thong Nhat Hall 30th April Park; and to name the bridge to Kim Cuong Island (Thu Duc City) Tran Quy Kien Bridge.

Before submitting the proposal, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports consulted people in relevant districts.

According to the Department, naming roads after Party and State leaders and Ho Chi Minh campaign commanders is a meaningful act, contributing to honoring history and celebrating the country's important milestones.
