Korean tourists choose Vietnam as their favorite destination
Based on data from global travel platform Agoda for hotel searches for check-ins in June and July, Nha Trang ranked No. 1 among overseas destinations favored by Korean tourists.
Often referred to as the “Naples of Vietnam,” the city has overtaken Tokyo, which was the most popular choice last year, to second place. Other popular destinations include Fukuoka and Osaka in Japan and Da Nang in Vietnam, which ranked third to fifth, respectively.
This shows that more and more Korean tourists want to explore the beautiful coastal city of Nha Trang, one of the top beach destinations in Southeast Asia, with its poetic beaches, high-class resort services and rich and unique cuisine .
There is no denying that South Korea is a key international tourist market for Vietnam. Last year, South Korean tourists led the way in international arrivals to Vietnam with about 4.5 million arrivals, accounting for approximately 26% of total arrivals. In Nha Trang alone, this figure is even more impressive as South Korean visitors accounted for nearly 50% of total international arrivals.
This shows that the demand for travel, trade and tourism between Vietnam and Korea is booming. This shows the potential and strong attraction of this destination for tourists from the land of Kim Chi.
In particular, in the first 4 months of 2025, the coastal city of Nha Trang welcomed more than 812,800 Korean visitors, an increase of 6.5% over the same period last year. These figures not only affirm the particularly important role but also show the great development potential of the Korean market for the Vietnamese tourism industry in general and Nha Trang in particular.
The continuing global inflation trend seems to be shifting demand to more affordable destinations with shorter flight times. Not only the Vietnamese coastal city of Nha Trang, but China is also emerging as an attractive destination. Searches for Qingdao and Shanghai increased by 212% and 207% respectively.
The increase is due to China's temporary visa exemption program for South Korean citizens, which was introduced in November 2023 to stimulate tourism.
As for domestic tourism, Jeju Island remains the most sought-after destination, followed by Seoul, Busan, Sokcho and Gangneung. In particular, Sokcho and Gangneung in Gangwon Province have seen increased interest since the Donghae Line (East Sea Line) opened late last year, significantly improving access to Korea's east coast.
"With forecasts of extreme heat and a prolonged monsoon season this summer, many travelers appear to be accelerating their vacation plans," an Agoda official said.
While most Korean office workers typically take their summer vacation from late July to early August, traveling early has many advantages such as lower accommodation costs and the opportunity to avoid peak season crowds.
