The final of the women's 5,000m event, with the participation of 8 athletes, took place in favorable weather conditions. Notable opponents of the runner born in 1995 include Le Thi Tuyet ( Dak Lak ), Bui Thi Thu Ha (Thanh Hoa) and Pham Thi Hong Le (Gia Lai). Right from the first laps, Nguyen Thi Oanh quickly accelerated, maintaining a safe distance to finish first with a time of 16 minutes 28 seconds 78.
Although this figure cannot break the national record of 15 minutes 46 seconds 11 that she set at the 2025 Asian Championship, this victory is still a favorable start, creating positive psychological momentum for Oanh and the Bac Ninh athletics team. This is also the first gold medal that she has won for Bac Ninh since this unit merged with Bac Giang .
The runner-up position belonged to Le Thi Tuyet with a time of 16 minutes 32 seconds 49. Last year, she competed directly with Nguyen Thi Oanh in this event but again missed out on the gold medal. Bui Thi Thu Ha finished third with a time of 16 minutes 42 seconds 40, while Pham Thi Hong Le ranked fourth.
The 2025 National Athletics Championship, taking place from August 9 to 13, will bring together nearly 500 professional athletes from 30 provinces and cities, along with the Public Security and Military sectors, competing in 50 sets of medals in individual and relay events for men and women.
The tournament is jointly organized by the Vietnam Sports Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), the Vietnam Athletics Federation and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Through the tournament, the Organizing Committee will comprehensively evaluate the training and education of athletes at the units, prepare forces for the 10th National Sports Congress in 2026, and at the same time select outstanding faces to add to the national team to participate in international tournaments, focusing on the 33rd SEA Games taking place in December in Thailand.
