On the afternoon of August 9, at Hoa Xuan Athletics Stadium (Hoa Xuan Ward, Da Nang City), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City coordinated with the Department of Physical Training and Sports and the Vietnam Athletics Federation to organize the opening ceremony of the 2025 National Athletics Championship.
The tournament took place from August 9-13, gathering nearly 500 professional athletes from 30 provinces and cities, along with the Public Security and Military sectors, competing in 50 sets of medals in individual and relay events for men and women.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City Nguyen Trong Thao emphasized: The National Athletics Championship is one of the oldest and most prestigious sporting events in Vietnam, playing an important role in discovering and nurturing athletics talents for the country's sports, making Vietnamese sports famous in the international arena.
This year’s tournament takes place in the context of the country having just completed the restructuring of administrative units, moving towards a streamlined and efficient apparatus. According to Mr. Thao, sports also accompany this process, becoming a bridge of solidarity and a symbol of integration and development between localities.
Through the tournament, the organizing committee will comprehensively evaluate the training and education of athletes at the units, prepare forces for the 10th National Sports Congress in 2026, and at the same time select outstanding faces to add to the national team to participate in international tournaments, focusing on the 33rd SEA Games taking place in December in Thailand.
Before the opening ceremony, a number of competitions had taken place; by late afternoon on August 9, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation was temporarily leading with 3 gold medals.
