Sharing information about the 80-year achievements of the Culture sector in ensuring and enhancing the people's right to enjoy culture, Associate Professor, Dr. Do Thi Thanh Thuy (Vietnam Institute of Culture, Arts, Sports and Tourism) emphasized: One of the bright spots in the activities of ensuring cultural rights is to protect and promote cultural identity. Many achievements have been recognized by people in the country and the world .
According to Ms. Thuy, Vietnam is a country with a rich history and traditional culture of thousands of years. Vietnamese culture has unity in diversity, is the blend and crystallization of the cultural identities of 54 ethnic groups.
Deeply aware of the importance of cultural identity, the Party, State and Government of Vietnam have paid special attention to preserving and promoting the culture of the Vietnamese ethnic community.
Over the past 80 years, the task of building an advanced culture imbued with national identity has always been affirmed in many Party documents as well as in directive statements of Party and State leaders.
Cultural rights are a topic of interest in international forums, promoting intercultural dialogue, contributing to the stability of political ideology and peace of the country. Associate Professor, Dr. Do Thi Thanh Thuy
“To ensure cultural rights, the recognition and respect for the uniqueness and diversity of culture, including the culture of minority groups, and the preservation and promotion of cultural identity have received special attention from the industry, contributing to putting the Party's guidelines and policies into practice,” said Ms. Thuy.
Up to now, we have achieved many encouraging results. Currently, the whole country has more than 40,000 relics and nearly 70,000 intangible cultural heritages inventoried, of which 36 heritages have been recognized/inscribed by UNESCO. By 2025, Vietnam will have 9 world heritages recognized by UNESCO (including 6 cultural heritages, 2 natural heritages, 1 mixed cultural and natural heritage).
Among the above practical efforts, Ms. Thuy highly appreciated the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period, which has contributed to preserving the customs, languages and cultural practices of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas associated with tourism development.
Project 6 under this national target program is implemented with the following objectives: Restoring, preserving and promoting traditional cultural values; training and fostering cultural cadres; supporting cultural facilities and equipment for ethnic minority and mountainous areas to enhance cultural enjoyment for ethnic minorities associated with community tourism development, with priority given to ethnic minorities with very few people.
In the process of protecting and promoting cultural identity, the role of the community is increasingly emphasized. Each individual, group, community and nation has the right to maintain, protect and develop its own cultural identity.
Many good beliefs, customs, practices, and many types of tangible and intangible heritages are preserved and promoted, increasingly integrated into socio-economic development in the current context, associated with community livelihoods and sustainable development.
“In general, protecting and promoting cultural identity contributes to building a healthy spiritual life and sustainable development, ensuring regional and ethnic cultural diversity, and receiving recognition from the masses,” Ms. Thuy commented.
