Newcastle United dominated the match at St. James' Park but could only manage a 0-0 draw against Leicester City in the late match of round 37 of the Premier League.
However, this result is enough for the Magpies to officially be in the top 4 when the 2022-23 season ends.
With this result, coach Eddie Howe's team followed defending champion Manchester City and runner-up Arsenal to win tickets to participate in the Champions League next season.
This is also the first time since the 2002-2003 season that Newcastle United has participated in the group stage of the highest continental club competition.
The remaining ticket to represent the Premier League in next season's Champions League will be a competition between Manchester United and Liverpool.
Manchester United are also currently on 69 points, three points ahead of Liverpool and having played one game less.
Coach Erik ten Hag's team only needs to draw with Chelsea in the make-up match (May 26) to qualify for the 2023-2024 Champions League.
On the other hand, with a draw against Newcastle, Leicester continues to face the risk of relegation.
The 2015-2016 champions currently have only 31 points, two points behind the relegation zone and their "fate" will be decided in the final round.
The Foxes can only stay up if they win against West Ham United, but only if Everton fail to beat Bournemouth in the other game.
In addition to these two names, the group competing for relegation also includes Leeds United (31 points). Leeds can only stay in the league if they win against Tottenham, while both Leicester and Everton must lose.
