For Netflix, the cheapest, 480p mobile plan increased from VND70,000 to VND74,000 while the premium 4K HDR plan increased from VND260,000 to VND273,000. This is also the highest increase among Netflix packages, an increase of VND13,000 compared to before.

In a notice to users in late June, Netflix said the price increase was related to changes in Vietnam's tax policy.

Online services such as buying ads on social networks like Google and Meta were also quickly adjusted to a similar level. However, this time, the supplier did not notify users in Vietnam in advance. Specifically, after July 1, users paying for Google and Facebook ads will pay an additional 10% tax, instead of the previous 5%. The additional amount is automatically calculated by the platform and included in the amount to be spent.

Personal services such as Google One and YouTube Premium have not announced price increases, but the tax is not included in the package. AI, monthly software packages... are also included in the group of services that will be subject to the new tax rate.

The 2024 Value Added Tax Law officially took effect from the beginning of July, accordingly, online services provided by foreign countries without a permanent establishment in Vietnam to domestic organizations and individuals will be subject to a tax rate of 10%, an increase of 5% compared to before. The price increase of Netflix, Google, Meta is also about 5% for all packages, offsetting the tax increase.
