Lychee season in Ha Tinh starts around May and lasts until July.

These days, Mr. Nguyen Tien Ha in Hoa Thang village, Ky Hoa commune has begun to harvest scattered bunches of ripe, juicy lychees.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Ha said: “Compared to last year, this year, the lychees are more fruitful and sweeter. Since the beginning of the season, the family has not had to sell them at the market. Traders come to the garden to buy the lychees as they are harvested. After deducting expenses, this year's lychee season, the family is expected to earn about 40 - 50 million VND.”

This year, the lychee fruit is big and beautiful, the flesh is thick and the yield is double that of last season.

At Ms. Doan Thi Nhung's lychee garden in Hoa Tan village, Ky Hoa commune, this year, all 28 lychee trees of the family are full of fruit, with an average yield of more than 80kg per tree.

“10 years ago, when implementing the policy of building new rural areas and eliminating mixed gardens, I was one of the households in the area that brought lychee trees back to grow on a trial basis. After 3 years of care, the lychee garden has yielded a harvest with economic efficiency superior to other crops,” Ms. Nhung shared.

Ms. Doan Thi Nhung is very excited because at the beginning of the season, the price of lychee is 40 thousand VND/kg.

Currently, in Ky Hoa commune, there are more than 20 households growing lychee. Each household has an average of 20 to 30 trees. Lychee is a crop that is not picky about soil, can be grown on arid land for high yield. In particular, lychee in Ky Hoa commune has a rich sweet taste, small seeds, thick lychee pulp, and is very popular with customers.

Compared to last year, this year, lychees are more fruitful and sweeter. Traders buy lychees as they are harvested. Currently, lychees are priced between 20,000 and 30,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, each lychee season, each household earns more than 40 million VND.

Many households plan to expand their acreage, considering this the main crop in local economic development.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoc - Vice Chairman of Ky Hoa Commune People's Committee added: "This year, Ky Hoa commune's lychee is superior to last year in both output and quality. Many households are planning to expand their acreage. The locality is conducting surveys and agreeing on seed selection, care techniques, and cultivation methods to increase productivity for next year's lychee crop."

The success of lychee trees in Ky Hoa commune is not only the result of the diligence and hard work of farmers but also a testament to the ability to adapt and convert suitable crop structures, bringing high economic efficiency in Ky Anh town.

Lychee trees are not picky about soil, however, the important requirement is that the soil layer must be thick. The planting process must provide enough water, especially during the dry season, when the fruit is growing and about to ripen; prevent weeds by covering the base with grass, garbage, green manure plants...
