According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from 1-7 am this morning, June 21, there were places with very heavy rain such as: Phuc Triu (Thai Nguyen) 345.7 mm; Tien Nguyen 1 (Ha Giang) 176.2 mm; Bang Luan (Phu Tho) 151.6 mm; Ho Ngoi La (Tuyen Quang) 134.2 mm; Van Mai (Hoa Binh) 128.8 mm; Hong An (Cao Bang) 106.6 mm; Yen Han ( Bac Kan ) 89.8 mm; km46 (Son La) 83 mm; Nam Det (Lao Cai) 81.8 mm; Nam Khao 2 (Lai Chau) 77.8 mm; Tan Hoa (Lang Son) 76.2 mm...

It is forecasted that from noon today to the night of June 22, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 50 - 100 mm, locally over 250 mm. Particularly in Thai Nguyen , in the next 6 hours (from 8 am this morning), rainfall will range from 60 - 90 mm, over 120 mm in some places.

Warning of risk of heavy localized rain (over 100 mm/3 hours).

In addition, today and tonight, the Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa regions will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 10 - 30 mm, locally over 50 mm.

The Southern Central Highlands and the Southern region have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall from 20 - 40 mm, locally over 80 mm; the Northern Central Highlands have rainfall from 10 - 30 mm, locally over 60 mm. Rain is concentrated in the afternoon and evening.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that since the beginning of June, in the mountainous and midland areas of the North, there has been continuous widespread rain with total estimated rainfall higher than the average of many years.

"Heavy and prolonged rain combined with high intensity rain risks causing flash floods and landslides, especially in mountainous and midland areas of the North this weekend," Mr. Huong said.

It is forecasted that in the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes in many districts of 14 northern provinces.

Flood warning on rivers in the North

Currently, the water level upstream of Cau River is rising rapidly, while the main rivers of the Red - Thai Binh River system are changing slowly and are below the alarm level.

From the night of June 21 to June 22, on the upper reaches of Thao River, Lo River, Cau River, and small rivers in the Northern region, there is a possibility of a flood, with flood amplitudes on the rivers ranging from 2 - 5 m. The flood peak on small rivers is likely to reach level I - II. The water level in the downstream of Thao River, Lo River, and Cau River is below level I.
