From July 7 to 8, some localities in Ho Chi Minh City such as Tam Long Ward and Ho Tram Commune organized to collect opinions from voters representing households on renaming some hamlets and neighborhoods with duplicate names and converting existing hamlets and neighborhoods into villages.
In Ho Tram commune, after merging three old administrative units, Phuoc Tan commune, Phuoc Thuan commune and Phuoc Buu town, Ho Tram commune was established. However, during the operation process, some places had duplicate names, causing difficulties in management and administration.
To ensure consistency, easy distinction and convenience in management, the local government organized to collect opinions on renaming two areas, specifically: Xom Ray Quarter (belonging to the old Phuoc Buu town) was proposed to be renamed Phuoc Buu; Thanh Son 2A Hamlet (belonging to the old Phuoc Thuan commune) was proposed to be renamed Phuoc Thuan.
Other place names, even though they have the same name but do not affect management practices, will be kept the same to ensure stability and create consensus among the people.
At the same time, Ho Tram commune also converted all 23 existing hamlets and neighborhoods (including after name change) into villages, which are community organizations below the commune level, in accordance with regulations.
The Commune People's Committee has a master plan to rename and convert administrative units and submitted it developed to the Standing Committee of the Commune Party Committee for comments. The plan to collect voters' opinions is implemented publicly, transparently and in accordance with the procedure by distributing ballots directly according to the list posted at the Commune People's Committee headquarters, hamlets/neighborhoods and publicly posted on mass media from July 7 to 8, 2025.
If the percentage of voters in agreement reaches over 50%, the Commune People's Committee will complete the dossier and submit it to the Commune People's Council to decide to recognize the results and carry out the next steps in accordance with regulations.
Ho Tram commune currently has a population of 51,800, this is also the commune with a large number of tourism projects approved for investment with 41 projects, on a total area of 660 hectares, with a total capital of more than 5 billion USD. Up to now, 12 projects have been put into operation, contributing to the strong development of Ho Tram tourism.
