Man Utd played poorly when hosting Brighton in round 5 of the Premier League and suffered a 1-3 defeat at home at Old Trafford. This was the 3rd loss in the last 5 matches of the "Red Devils".

Man Utd increased the pace of the match after the opening whistle in an attempt to take the lead against Brighton, however, the visitors organized a tight defense and actively slowed down the pace of the match to reduce the excitement of the home team. After about 15 minutes of being at a disadvantage, Brighton gradually pushed Man Utd back.
Brighton's attacking play was not impressive throughout the early stages of the match, however, they were the team that opened the scoring. In the 20th minute, Brighton easily penetrated the Man Utd defense and Welbeck scored the opening goal of the match with a shot from just 7 meters away.
Conceding a goal, Man Utd tried to fight back, but the home team's midfield could not hold the ball and their attacks mainly went through Rashford. The English player played individually, rarely coordinating with Hojlund, causing Man Utd's attacks to lack any breakthrough.
In matches since the beginning of the season, Man Utd often ran out of steam in the second half, and this match was no exception. The weak ability to organize a defense from a distance made Man Utd pay the price with the next goals. In the 53rd minute, Gross raised the score to 2-1, and in the 71st minute, Pedro increased the gap to 3-0.
After being led 3-0, many disappointed spectators left Old Trafford, shaking their heads sadly when witnessing the home team's players unable to control the ball and pressure the away team.
Substitute Mejbri shined individually to bring home a goal to reduce the score to 1-3 in the 73rd minute, at the same time giving hope of a comeback for Man Utd.
However, in the remaining minutes, Man Utd were still very deadlocked. Even if Onana did not shine and continuously save the goal, the number of goals conceded by the Old Trafford team would be even higher.
