According to the Daily Mail , Diogo Jota and his brother were involved in an accident while driving through northern Spain to catch a night ferry back to England, to prepare for the new season training with Liverpool. Both Diogo Jota and Andre Silva were expected to arrive in Santander before traveling by ferry.
Why didn't Diogo Jota travel by plane? According to the British press, the Liverpool striker has just undergone lung surgery and was advised not to fly. Instead, doctors advised Diogo Jota to take a boat. The Brittany Ferries ferry service from Santander to Plymouth departs at 4pm on July 3 and is expected to arrive in Devon at 11.15am on Friday (July 4). This is also the means by which Diogo Jota and his brother plan to travel back to England.
CNN Portugal sports editor Rui Loura said live on air today: "The operation Diogo Jota underwent was a lung operation. He was advised not to fly afterwards. Diogo Jota and his brother were travelling to the northern Spanish port city of Santander to take a ferry to England and then continue by car after getting off the ferry to return to Liverpool."
Another Portuguese journalist, Victor Pinto, told CMTV: "Diogo Jota sometimes chooses to travel by road because he has a problem with his lungs, and as we know, there is a ferry that connects the south of England to Spain."
