Spreading innovation in high-tech agriculture

On the morning of July 7, the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Agricultural Park coordinated to launch the Innovation and Startup Competition in the field of high-tech agriculture - 2025 in the North Central and Central Coast regions.

With the theme “Digital transformation in sustainable agricultural development”, the competition focuses on promoting the application of high technology in production, traceability, post-harvest preservation and distribution of agricultural products.

This is a practical platform to discover and incubate new ideas, connect resources and contribute to building a Vietnamese agricultural startup ecosystem that reaches the regional level.

The contest is organized on a national scale, targeting 6 socio -economic regions.

According to the organizers, the competition focuses on the fields of management, production, processing and preservation in high-tech agriculture such as: edible mushrooms, medicinal mushrooms, medicinal plants, orchids, ornamental plants, plant cell technology, microbiology, biology, cultivation, animal husbandry, aquaculture and post-harvest technology.

In addition, the contest encourages the application of advanced technologies such as IoT, AI, Big Data, Blockchain, automation, robots, drones, etc. in the production, processing, and traceability of agricultural products. The contest prioritizes projects that already have specific products and encourages ideas for technological improvements suitable to Vietnam's conditions.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien, Deputy Head of the Management Board of the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Agricultural Zone, said that the contest used to be held only in Ho Chi Minh City, but from this year it has been deployed nationally. After Hanoi, Cao Bang, Can Tho, Lam Dong, Da Nang is the last locality to be announced.

The competition is part of the national strategy on the 4.0 industrial revolution and Resolution 57 on innovation, aiming to promote the role of enterprises in economic development, especially in the field of high-tech agriculture. He also emphasized the potential of the North Central and Central Coast regions with many agricultural specialties but also facing climate change, requiring creative solutions.

The contest is a playground for students and young businesses to express their ideas and apply technologies such as IoT, AI, etc. He hopes to receive support from the Department of Science and Technology, universities, startup centers, etc. to attract many useful ideas to support high-tech agriculture.

According to Mr. Pham Ngoc Sinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang City, the city is committed to accompanying the competition throughout, not only supporting the organization but also mobilizing the startup ecosystem including universities, innovation centers, mentors and investors to spread the competition more widely.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Sinh especially emphasized the urgent role of innovation in high-tech agriculture to protect the ecosystem, preserve valuable genetic resources and enhance product value chains. He proposed developing a specialized contest for startups in the field of medicinal herbs, exploiting the potential of the rich medicinal herb region in Da Nang - known as the "medicinal herb capital" of the country.
