Snow falls in Al-Jawf desert in Saudi Arabia for the first time in history

The UAE National Center of Meteorology (NCM) points to a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea stretching towards Oman. This system carries moist air over Saudi Arabia, leading to major changes in weather and snowfall.

Saudi Arabia's weather agency has issued a warning to residents to be on guard against extreme weather events such as thunderstorms, heavy rains and hail that could continue in the coming days.

This is not the first time Saudi Arabia has seen unusual snowfall. In February 2024, the Al-Lawz mountains, northwest of the city of Tabuk, were also covered in snow.

Normally, Al-Lawz receives snow between December and January, but this year the snowfall was delayed, which is believed to be due to changing atmospheric conditions and the absence of southerly winds that bring cold, moist air to the area.
