In recent days, the working atmosphere at the coastal fishing ports of the province has been bustling. Many ships have docked after a long voyage, fishermen have urgently unloaded seafood to sell. This year, although the price of tuna is not high, the output is high, so fishermen are still very excited.
On July 2, fishing boat PY95546TS of Ms. Tran Thi Hong ( Phu Yen ward) returned to Dong Tac fishing port and unloaded seafood ashore. Ms. Hong said that thanks to the calm sea and the fish flow, the boat owner and his fellow workers were all excited. After more than 30 days of fishing at sea, Ms. Hong's fishing boat caught a total seafood output of about 2.3 tons, of which more than 2.1 tons of ocean tuna (nearly 50 fish).

According to information from the Dong Tac Fishing Port Management Board, it is now the time for offshore fishing vessels to return to port. From July 1 to 3 alone, more than 40 vessels docked at the port, with a yield of 50 tons of ocean tuna. In addition to Ms. Hong's PY95546TS vessel with a yield of more than 2.1 tons of fish, the PY96202TS vessel also achieved 1.3 tons of ocean tuna and more than 2 tons of other seafood; the PY96419TS vessel achieved 1.3 tons of ocean tuna and 5 tons of other seafood... Mr. Dang Tan Soan, Muoi Sum Seafood Purchasing Company Limited (Phu Yen Ward) commented: "The quality of ocean tuna this time is relatively good, so we bought it all. Timely purchasing and keeping fish prices stable will help fishermen be excited and continue to go offshore to make a living."
Since the beginning of the year, the province has had about 2,800 fishing boats leaving the port and about 2,660 fishing boats arriving at the port. The output of exploited aquatic products reached about 36,400 tons, equal to 104.8% compared to the same period last year; of which 2,400 tons were ocean tuna. |
Fisherman Huynh Van Thien, owner of fishing boat PY96419TS (Phu Yen ward) shared that the current selling price of tuna is only 98,000 VND/kg, after the fishing trip each worker gets 7 million VND/person. “That's the way the sea fishing profession is, if the harvest is good, there is a high income, if the harvest is bad, there is a loss, fishermen are used to it.
For a long time, fishermen have considered the sea their home and main source of livelihood, so every time they go offshore, they not only exploit seafood, but also set a living milestone to protect the fishing grounds and islands of their homeland," Mr. Thien said.
According to Mr. Ha Vien, Head of the Provincial Fishing Port Management Board (Department of Agriculture and Environment), there are currently 4 main fishing ports in the province, including: Dong Tac (Phu Yen ward), Phu Lac (Hoa Hiep ward), Tien Chau (Tuy An Dong commune) and Dan Phuoc (Xuan Dai ward).
Since the beginning of the year, seafood unloaded through these four ports has mainly been tuna, striped tuna, sailfish, mackerel, squid, mackerel, anchovies and some other seafood.
The Provincial Fishing Port Management Board has allocated human resources and arranged areas for ships to unload seafood ashore and created favorable conditions for fishermen to transfer supplies, urgent, fuel, etc. onto ships to continue fishing at sea.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province currently has about 3,000 fishing vessels, of which 686 are 15 meters or longer and specializes in exploiting the open sea. To date, the province still maintains 119 production teams with 926 vessels and more than 7,940 workers regularly organizing exploitation at sea.
Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Thi Nguyen Thao requested departments, branches and coastal localities to carefully prepare the program, content and working plan with the 5th EC inspection delegation according to the instructions of the National Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing; to be completed before August 31, 2025. |
According to businesses that purchase, process and export tuna in the province, there was a time when the purchase price of grade 1 tuna at the port was at 140,000 VND/kg, but now it is only 98,000 VND/kg.
The reason is due to the impact of the European Commission (EC) yellow card warning on Vietnamese seafood. formation, countries importing ocean tuna, especially the European market (EU), have put forward many very strict terms, especially the EU market.
Many fishermen said that in order to soon remove the yellow card warning, fishermen have fully complied with regulations on marine fishing and participated in the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing as well as the Fisheries Law and other regulations. When going to sea, ship owners and captains in the team often remind each other not to encroach on foreign waters, and to participate in protecting fishing grounds and the country's waters. Fishermen hope that departments, branches and provincial leaders will continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for fishermen to go offshore to make a living.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, with the drastic participation of the entire political system from the province to the groundswell level, the work of combating IUU fishing in the province has had many positive changes. From 2019 to now, no fishing vessels of the province violating the exploitation of aquatic products in foreign waters have been arrested or handled. To achieve this result, the provincial agricultural sector has deployed the e-CDT software application to control fishing vessels entering and leaving the port, monitor the output of fishing and unloading through the port, and trace the origin of exploited seafood. Fishing vessels that lose connection to monitoring the journey, exceed the permitted boundary at sea are contacted by the authorities with the ship owner and captain to fix the connection to monitor the journey and request to return the vessel to the waters under Vietnam's sovereignty to exploit aquatic products.
"The Provincial People's Committee has directed departments, sectors and coastal localities to strictly implement the Central and provincial directives on combating IUU fishing. The Department of Agriculture and Environment continues to coordinate with functional forces and localities to strengthen patrols and control of fishing vessels at sea, at river mouths and at fishing ports; strictly handle violations in fishing activities, focusing on violations in monitoring routes, permitted fishing areas at sea, fishing licenses, inspections and registration of fishing vessels," emphasized Mr. Lu Ngoc Lam, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment.
