Education in a region that is difficult to change

In the National Criteria for Advanced New Rural Communes for the 2021-2025 period, 19 criteria for new rural communes are set out. Accordingly, many schools in mountainous areas have been invested in facilities and teaching equipment, thereby significantly improving quality.

Sharing about the actual situation in the locality, Mr. Hoang Hong Giang - Principal of Ban Khoang Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Lao Cai province), said: "The new rural construction program not only changes the appearance of the countryside but also creates profound changes in the lives of students.

Of which, the 19 national criteria on new rural areas, when implemented synchronously, have gradually removed the barriers that students in remote areas, isolated areas, and ethnic minority areas face on their journey to school.

One of the most noticeable changes is planning and transportation. In recent years, schools, medical stations, cultural houses, and residential areas have been re-allocated more scientifically to suit local conditions. Thanks to that, students have easier access to schools and no longer have to study at remote, makeshift schools far from the center.

Although there are still many difficulties, the roads have been concreted, helping students get to class safely, without having to wade through streams or cross mountains to get to school.

The core criteria for education create the foundation for teaching quality. Students are able to study in a relatively fair environment compared to students in more favorable areas, have access to a quality educational environment that meets national standards, facilities are upgraded, and teachers receive regular professional training.

Along with that, special attention is paid to improving the irrigation system and disaster prevention measures to help minimize study interruptions during the rainy season, which is always a constant fear for students in mountainous areas.

The rate of households directly registered and using electricity for daily life and production in a safe, reliable and stable manner has also increased significantly. When the national grid reaches the villages, students have more opportunities to study in the evening and have access to modern learning equipment such as computers, televisions, and smartphones. This is an important foundation for students in the highlands to gradually integrate into modern education.

People's lives are improved

On the other hand, information and communication criteria contribute to narrowing the digital gap between disadvantaged areas and urban areas. Widespread telephone and Internet coverage not only help students access online lectures but also effectively connect schools, families and local authorities in managing and caring for students.

Healthcare close to home, convenient administration, and full legal dissemination, things that were once considered luxuries, have now become basic advantages. Health stations are built spaciously, students receive regular health check-ups and are fully vaccinated. Education-related procedures are resolved quickly. More importantly, students and parents have access to legal information and clearly understand their rights and obligations.

In the 2021 - 2025 enhanced new rural program, students are the ones who benefit from many advantages in terms of facilities.

In terms of living conditions, criteria on residential housing, income, and multidimensional poverty reduction have significantly improved the quality of life of students. When families are economically stable, no longer worried about meals and shelter, students can continue their studies in better conditions. The development of rural commercial infrastructure also helps parents earn more income from trading, which they can then reinvest in their children's education.

A healthy living environment is also a bright spot. Criteria on environment, quality of life, national defense and security help students have a clean, safe living space, away from social evils, and feel secure going to school. Children in disadvantaged areas are no longer neglected, but have truly become the center of all development policies.

Witnessing the changes in his hometown in the new era, Mr. Chao Lao Lo, a parent of a student at Ban Khoang Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, residing in Ngu Chi Son commune, Lao Cai province, shared: “The children have basically benefited a lot, the most obvious change actually lies in the infrastructure that has been invested in and modernized over many years.

Inter-village and intra-field roads are concreted and expanded. Electricity is installed to households even in the most remote areas of the village. Telephone and Internet signals are widespread, trade is convenient, and trade and exchange are continuous to develop household economies. These things not only change the face of rural mountainous communes but also give children the opportunity to study and change their lives.
