Long coastline, large fishing grounds and abundant resources, many species with high economic value... have created favorable conditions for the development of marine economic sectors. In the coastal areas and at sea of the province, in recent times, there have been many activities of exploiting and using marine resources for socio-economic development, such as maritime, tourism , renewable energy; aquaculture; development of industrial parks, coastal urban areas, fishing logistics services... In particular, fisheries exploitation has long affirmed its position, role, and contributed greatly to the economic development of the province.
Ca Mau sea area is located in the Southwest sea area , bordering many countries such as Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, so it is very favorable for the development of maritime economy, this will be the driving force to promote the socio-economic development of the province as well as the whole Mekong Delta if properly invested. In addition, in Ca Mau sea area, quite large oil and gas reserves have been discovered, this is a valuable resource of the country, opening up many prospects for exploitation and strong development of the oil and gas industry.
Song Doc has invested in quite basic fishing infrastructure, with fishing ports, anchorage areas and a series of factories, enterprises and shops serving the fishing industry.
Ca Mau is also a land that converges many sea and island tourism resources, both diverse and rich, and has its own differences and characteristics. The geographical location of the southernmost point of the country alone is an advantage to create a breakthrough in the development of the tourism industry. That is not to mention the unique characteristics of Ca Mau: the only province in the country with 3 sides bordering the sea (both the East Sea and the West Sea); has clusters of islands near the shore such as: Hon Khoai, Hon Chuoi, Hon Da Bac; has Mui Ca Mau National Park and U Minh Ha National Park, which are the 2 core areas of the Mui Ca Mau World Biosphere Reserve; unique traditional folk festivals, imbued with coastal culture, typical of the river region..., all of which are strengths of Ca Mau tourism, attracting tourists...

Not only that, Ca Mau sea area is also favorable for developing clean energy sources such as wind power and wave power. According to the assessment, the total capacity of potential wind power sources is 15.3 GW (about 8.5 GW of offshore wind power and about 6.8 GW of nearshore and onshore wind power). In addition, the province also has the potential to develop other renewable energy sources such as solar power and gas power, with a total potential capacity of about 2.85 GW...
At the scientific workshop on “Potential and solutions for marine economic development in Ca Mau province by 2030”, recently organized by the province, MSc. Le Thanh Hai, Director of the Center for Economic Application Consulting (Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies), stated that Ca Mau has great potential in developing renewable energy thanks to its favorable geographical location and climate. The use of clean energy sources not only helps the province achieve environmental goals, but also contributes to enhancing the export capacity of sustainable certified seafood products, thereby enhancing the province's position in the international market.
To exploit the advantages of sustainable development of the marine economy, the Provincial Party Committee has developed and implemented Action Program No. 40-CTr/TU, dated June 30, 2020. After 5 years of implementation, the province's marine economy continues to develop in many areas. Mr. Chau Cong Bang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, informed that with the goal of developing the marine economy in a sustainable direction, in recent times, many solutions have been implemented to take advantage of available advantages and potentials, contributing to promoting economic and social development, improving people's lives. The orientation in developing the province's marine economy is to exploit in parallel with protecting and regenerating aquatic resources, focusing on exploiting types of tourism, especially sea and island tourism.
With that goal in mind, in recent times, the province has focused on investing in and effectively promoting fishing ports, fishing wharves, anchorage areas, and storm shelters, combined with fishing logistics services. Resolutely implementing the fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Prioritizing investment in coastal infrastructure; accordingly, the system of sea dykes, river dykes, river embankments, sea dykes, fishing infrastructure, etc. and many other projects have been invested in, completed, and put into use.

The province has built and is implementing many programs and projects, with the goal of both protecting and developing aquatic resources, meeting the needs of marine economic development, contributing to improving people's lives, and protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands... Specifically: Program for Protection and Development of Aquatic Resources to 2030, vision to 2045 in Ca Mau province; establishment of Ca Mau province's Marine Protected Area with a total area of 27,000 hectares; Plan for Development of Marine and Coastal Aquaculture in Ca Mau province for the period 2023-2025, orientation to 2030...
“The Department is working with agencies, experts and local authorities to continue reviewing difficulties and limitations, identifying causes, and from there developing appropriate implementation solutions, so that the marine economy can have clearer changes in the period from now to 2030,” Mr. Bang added.

Ca Mau is making great efforts and determination to realize the aspiration of reaching out to the sea and getting rich from the sea. According to MSc. Le Thanh Hai, to become a province with strong development in the marine economy of the country, meeting the criteria for sustainable development of the marine economy in the direction of modernity and green growth, becoming a driving force for socio-economic development of the province; Ca Mau needs to increase investment attraction to form a high-tech and sustainable aquaculture and seafood processing ecosystem, this is a strategic factor to exploit the maximum potential of the marine economy.
