
According to the Ministry of Construction , the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway expansion project has a short construction period of about 8 months while the total length of the route is up to 66km, connecting Hue city with Da Nang city. In addition, the project is implemented on an operating route, so ensuring traffic safety and implementing the construction is difficult.
This is a project of strategic significance in completing the infrastructure of the key economic region of the Central region. Therefore, contractors must fully arrange supplies, materials, human resources, machinery and equipment, and finance to complete the construction items and disburse funds in accordance with the competition agreement.
Mr. Nguyen Vu Quy, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board (the project investor) said that currently, there are 15 bored pile construction sites being deployed simultaneously on 15 bridges. Six girder casting yards are being completed to be ready for mass production in July.
The road section is currently implementing eight construction teams to dig molds and fill the expanded foundation. The contractor is gathering rocks to implement the crushed stone construction from the end of June 2025 for the sections that have completed the K98 soil layer. With the spirit of "overcoming the sun, overcoming the rain", "3 shifts, 4 crews" is not only a slogan but also a daily presence at the construction site. Contractors and construction units are striving to overcome difficulties to achieve the committed goals.
Meanwhile, according to the representative of the construction unit, we have mobilized 15 construction teams along the entire route, hundreds of officers, engineers, workers and many modern machines and equipment are continuously deployed to ensure progress. At the same time, we have arranged enough human resources, working 3 shifts continuously and strictly controlling technical standards in each item. Not only following the schedule but also ensuring the quality of the project, labor safety, traffic safety and environmental sanitation; especially during the dry season, the entire route is focusing on accelerating construction. In particular, we do not let the construction affect the lives and livelihoods of people on both sides of the route.

Previously, the Ho Chi Minh Highway section La Son - Hoa Lien with a scale of two lanes was built, completed and put into operation from April 2022. The project has been effective, reducing the load on National Highway 1A, increasing connectivity between Hue City and Da Nang City as well as the Central region. However, with a scale of two lanes, operating as a highway (no motorbikes, rudimentary vehicles...) this is still a bottleneck that localities have proposed to expand synchronously to four lanes in the near future.
When the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway expansion project is completed, it will contribute to gradually completing the planned traffic infrastructure, ensuring synchronization and modernity; improving exploitation capacity, minimizing traffic accidents to promote the role of the eastern North - South expressway in connecting localities, ensuring national defense and security in the region and the whole country.
The project also contributes to improving the capacity of the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway in particular, along with the Cam Lo - La Son and Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressways; and improving the capacity of the North - South expressway in general. The early completion and upgrading of the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway to 4-lane standards will contribute significantly to connecting the North - South axis, increasing traffic capacity, reducing traffic accidents and improving the efficiency of exploiting national transport infrastructure.
The project has a total investment of 3,000 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed after 240 days from the commencement date (May 29, 2025). The design of the expressway project follows the La Son - Hoa Lien route currently in operation, ensuring the technical requirements of the road level, making the most of the road surface structure, existing works, minimizing the volume of site clearance. The project will utilize the existing 12 bridges on the route to ensure the scale of 4 lanes; build new bridge units or expand 50 bridges on the route to ensure the scale of 4 lanes.
