In the first 6 months of the year, Vietnam welcomed about 260,000 Russian visitors, according to data released by the National Tourism Administration on July 6. Meanwhile, the number of Russian visitors to Vietnam in 2024 will only reach 232,300, with December 2024 recording the highest number of visitors in a month of 28,520.
Thus, with the number of visitors increasing by nearly 140% compared to the same period last year, Russia has become the largest European tourist market and has the strongest growth rate of Vietnamese tourism.
According to the National Tourism Administration, Russian market's remarkable growth is the result of many factors.
Vietnam is one of the few Asian countries that has reopened direct flights with Russia; the unilateral visa exemption policy continues to be maintained; tourist destinations in Vietnam are considered safe, attractive, with a pleasant climate all year round, especially in the Central and Southern regions.
Destinations such as Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and Mui Ne continue to be popular with Russian tourists thanks to their resort tourism associated with nature, islands, and high-quality services.
Many high-end resorts are also stepping up investment to meet the growing demand of high-spending customers from this market.
Up to now, Russian tourists come to Vietnam mainly via flights from Moscow, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Blagoveshchensk...
In the period of 2025-2026, Vietnamese travel and aviation businesses will promote opening new routes from Kazan, Ufa and other major cities to more effectively exploit market potential.
With this growth momentum, Vietnam expects to welcome about 430,000 Russian visitors in 2025, nearly double that of 2024, and move towards recovering the peak of 650,000 visitors as in 2019 - the time before the Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical crisis greatly affected the flow of international visitors.
According to Russian media, Vietnam is the fastest growing tourist destination in Southeast Asia for Russian tourists, surpassing Thailand - the country that has led the region for many years.
