Israel ready for 'pay the price' scenario; increase humanitarian aid

The Israeli Foreign Ministry on April 28 instructed the country's diplomatic missions abroad to prepare for a scenario where the International Criminal Court (ICC) issues arrest warrants for top Israeli leaders and military commanders over their actions in Gaza.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has sent a message on the matter to Israeli missions abroad and Jewish organizations, asking them to work with local authorities to increase security.

Israel fears the ICC plans to issue arrest warrants in the near future, possibly even this week. “We expect the ICC to prevent the issuance of arrest warrants against senior Israeli officials in the political and security sectors,” said Mr. Katz.

To date, the ICC has not made any official statements about the matters it is handling, since prosecutor Karim Khan confirmed in November 2023 that he was investigating the situation in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, including actions related to the Israel-Hamas war that began on October 7, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirmed on April 28 that humanitarian aid to Gaza will increase in the coming days, as the country opens new transport corridors from seaports and land borders.

“Over the past few weeks, the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza has increased significantly. In the coming days, the flow of aid into Gaza will continue to increase even more… Food, water, medical supplies, shelters and other aid will be delivered to Gaza more than ever before,” said Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagar.

Hagari added that the increased aid shipments were a result of the use of Israel's Ashdod port, as well as the opening of a new route into northern Gaza and an increase in aid from Jordan through the Kerem Shalom border crossing at Gaza's southern tip.

Israel is also working with the US Central Command to build a temporary pier to receive aid from the sea. In addition, the US-based charity World Central Kitchen said it would resume operations in the Gaza Strip from April 29, a month after seven of its staff were killed in an Israeli airstrike.
