As early as October 2024, it was reported that iPhone 17 models were being developed and tested by Foxconn in India. The Economic Times of India reported that the company began importing iPhone 17 components from China in June to begin full-scale trial production.
The components include the iPhone 17 display, protective glass, integrated rear camera module, and the device's mechanical housing, the source said, citing customs records. The iPhone 17 components accounted for about 10% of Foxconn's total orders from China in June.
The remaining 90% of these imported components are for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 16. Apple is expected to sell these models in large quantities in August, marking the start of the major festival season in India.
The Economic Times of India , citing unidentified sources, said Foxconn will start receiving components in June, with trial production expected to begin in July. Mass production is then expected to begin in August.
In Bloomberg's Power On newsletter on July 13, analyst Mark Gurman revealed that Apple's iPhone 17 launch event schedule will still take place in early September as usual every year. Since Apple usually waits until after Labor Day (September 1), Gurman expected the event to take place the week of September 8.
As for the specific date, Gurman added that Apple prefers to hold events on Tuesdays (September 9) with only a few exceptions in recent years.
For the past 10 years, most of the iPhone launch events have taken place in the second week of September. The only major exception was October 2020, when the iPhone announcement event was delayed by a month due to production issues arising from the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Apple still arranged to hold it in the second week of the month, and it was still a Tuesday (October 13, 2020).
According to Bloomberg , the iPhone 17 series is not the only hardware Apple could launch at the event. The company often uses the event to introduce additional hardware, and it is likely that the Apple Watch Series 11, updated AirPods, and other products will appear.
