More than 250 types of diseases are provided with outpatient medicine for over 30 days

(DN) - The Ministry of Health has just issued Circular No. 26/2025/TT-BYT dated June 30, 2025 regulating prescriptions and prescriptions of pharmaceutical and biological drugs in outpatient treatment at medical examination and treatment facilities.

Accordingly, from July 1, 2025, 252 diseases and groups of diseases will be prescribed outpatient medication for more than 30 days instead of the maximum limit of 30 days as before July 1. This is good news for many patients, especially the elderly, disabled, and those in remote areas with difficult travel.

List of 252 diseases, groups of diseases including: infectious and parasitic diseases; neoplasms; diseases of blood, blood-forming organs and disorders related to the immune mechanism; endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases; mental diseases; diseases of the nervous system; diseases of the eyes and eye appendages; diseases of the circulatory system; diseases of the respiratory system; diseases of the digestive system; diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue; diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue; diseases of the genitourinary system; pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum; toxic injuries and consequences of some external causes; factors affecting health status and contact with health services.

Among the above groups of diseases are common chronic diseases such as: high blood pressure, diabetes, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, anxiety disorders, depression, chronic hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS, hypothyroidism, pituitary failure, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, dementia, Thalassemia, breast cancer, thyroid cancer...

The Circular clearly stipulates that prescribers must be legally responsible for their prescriptions, ensuring that they are consistent with the diagnosis, the stability of the disease, and the patient's ability to self-monitor treatment at home.

In case the medicine has not been used up but the disease progresses abnormally or the patient cannot return for a follow-up visit on time, it is mandatory to return to the medical facility for a doctor to evaluate and adjust the prescription if necessary.

Also in this circular, the Ministry of Health clearly stipulates the roadmap for implementing electronic prescriptions. For medical examination and treatment facilities organized as hospitals, they must implement electronic prescriptions before October 1, 2025. Other medical examination and treatment facilities must implement them before January 1, 2026.
