The Malaysian team also rose dramatically in the FIFA rankings, from 154th to 130th in the world . With such impressive performance, coach Kim Pin Gon became the new idol of Malaysian football.
Speaking to FIFA, Coach Kim Pan Gon admitted that Coach Park Hang Seo's success motivated him. The Korean coach said: "I am proud of what Mr. Park Hang Seo has done with the Vietnamese team and what Coach Shin Tae Yong has done in Indonesia.
Even though I work in Malaysia, I am proud to represent Korea. You feel like you have a mission to pave the way for the next coaches.
Following the success of Coach Park Hang Seo and Coach Shin Tae Yong, Korean coaches have been successful in Southeast Asia. I hope to see my compatriots have the opportunity to work in countries with higher football standards and competition."
In the 2023 Asian Cup, Malaysia is in the same group with South Korea, Jordan and Bahrain. They will play Jordan on January 15.
