"Brand new" formula for calculating high school graduation scores with 3 major changes

From 8:00 a.m. this morning (July 16), candidates nationwide will be able to look up their 2025 high school graduation exam scores.

The formula for calculating scores for high school graduation recognition will change from 2025, according to the exam regulations issued by the Ministry of Education and Training at the end of December last year.

The formula for calculating high school graduation scores is as follows:

Specifically, the high school graduation score consists of 3 components: total score of high school graduation exam subjects converted to a 10-point scale, average score of high school years, priority points (UT) and encouragement points (KK) if any.

In the average score of the school years, the learning results of grade 10 are calculated with a coefficient of 1, the learning results of grade 11 are calculated with a coefficient of 2, and the learning results of grade 12 are calculated with a coefficient of 3.

The academic result of each year is the average score of all subjects evaluated by the scores of each school year, rounded to 2 decimal places.

This point is completely new when in previous years, the formula for calculating high school graduation scores divided the ratio of 7-3 for graduation exam scores and academic results. In addition, academic results were only considered in grade 12.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that the increase in the rate of using transcripts from 30% to 50% will more closely assess learners' abilities according to the 2018 generaleducation program, including many other abilities that the graduation exam does not fully assess.

In addition, report cards from grades 10 and 11 are also used to promote teaching and learning right from when students enter high school.

Foreign language certificates will continue to be used for exam exemption in graduation recognition consideration but will not be converted into 10 points in graduation recognition consideration as before; the graduation score calculation formula does not include foreign language points in this case.

Regarding priority points, the Ministry of Education and Training will no longer add points for vocational certificates for all candidates, and will no longer add points for IT certificates, foreign languages, and vocational secondary school certificates for candidates in the continuing education system.

Candidates who are eligible to take the exam, have not been disciplined to have their exam results canceled, all exam subjects achieve above 1 point on a 10-point scale and have a graduation score of 5 points or higher will be recognized as graduating from high school.

Some important milestones that candidates need to know clearly are the recognition of high school graduation no later than July 18.

School principals must complete the issuance of temporary graduation certificates, return transcripts and related certificates (originals) to candidates, no later than July 22.

Print and send exam result certificates to candidates, complete no later than July 22.

Receiving appeal applications and making appeal lists will take place from July 16 to July 25. Considering recognition of high school graduation after appeal no later than August 8.

2025 is the year when the first batch of students under the new general education program (2018 program) will take their graduation exam.

Candidates who studied under the old program (2006) but have not graduated will take the exam with a separate topic. Candidates who have graduated but studied under the old program, if they want to retake the exam for university admission, can choose the exam based on the old or new program.
