Will world gold prices fluctuate during the tax deadline? |
World gold prices continued to rise last week, boosted by a favorable economic and political backdrop. Among the factors driving this trend, recent political decisions in Washington played a central role. On July 1, the US Senate passed President Donald Trump 's landmark tax reform bill, a bill that could increase the federal debt by more than $3 trillion. That same day, President Trump also confirmed that he will not extend the July 9 deadline for new trade agreements.
The falling US dollar has also weighed on gold prices. The dollar fell nearly 2% in June, bringing its year-to-date decline to 9%, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The weaker US dollar makes gold more attractive to international buyers, helping to support demand.
According to fxempire.com, with the US Federal Reserve ( Fed ) interest rate cut now pushed to September, the short-term focus will shift to the July 9 tariff deadline for new trade deals.
Technically, last week's gold rally ended a two-week slide but did not result in a true bullish reversal. Sellers remain in the $3,451.53-$3,500.20/oz range, limiting the potential for a breakout. Meanwhile, buyers are eyeing the $3,166.46-$3,018.52/oz retracement zone if trading triggers a fresh pullback.
Gold prices remain well supported by fundamentals for now, but the Trump administration's tariff deadline could shape the next gold price trend this week.
