Coffee price today August 7, 2025: Insignificant increase

Domestic coffee prices are currently at 96,000 - 96,500 VND/kg, recording a slight increase compared to the beginning of last week. However, the price increase is making farmers hesitant: should they sell to prepare for the new harvest, or continue to hold on to their goods, waiting for prices to increase even more?

This is a difficult question, because the coffee market is unpredictable. Although the global supply will be about 1 million bags (each bag weighs 60 kg) surplus at the end of the 2023–2024 crop year, coffee prices will still increase sharply and peak in February 2025. This fluctuation shows that supply and demand are no longer the only factors affecting prices.

Another notable point last week was Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Brazil. During the trip, the Prime Minister proposed building a joint coffee brand between Vietnam and Brazil to enhance the position and value of coffee products in the global market.

Brazilian coffee exporter Grupo Tristao predicts that coffee production in the state of Espirito Santo could surpass that of Vietnam in the next few years. The company is planning to build a large warehouse in the area to anticipate the increase in supply. The application of modern technology, advanced irrigation systems and the ability to expand plantings on degraded grasslands are seen as factors that will boost production. Many experts are surprised by the rapid growth of robusta coffee in Brazil.

According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Vietnam is forecast to produce around 31 million bags of coffee in the 2025–2026 crop year, while Brazil's Espirito Santo state alone could produce 21.5 million bags, including a small portion of arabica. Brazil's total coffee production is expected to reach 65 million bags, up slightly by 0.5% from the previous crop year.

Production growth will be driven largely by robusta, which is forecast to reach a record 24.1 million bags, up 15% from 2024–25 due to favorable weather conditions in major growing regions. To accommodate the increased production, Grupo Tristao plans to build a warehouse with a capacity of at least 1 million bags in Espirito Santo.
