The main reason for the decline in coffee prices is attributed by experts to favorable weather and a bumper crop in Brazil, the world’s largest coffee producer, putting pressure on the global market. In addition, the Brazilian Real continued to appreciate against the USD, reaching a yearly high and increasing by a total of 4.24% in June, causing Brazilian producers to limit sales due to reduced conversion profits.

Regarding exports, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that in the first 6 months of 2025, Vietnam achieved a record of coffee exports worth 5.5 billion USD, exceeding the annual target in just the first half of the year. The US remains the main export market, however, some partners here are looking for alternative sources of supply, increasing competitive pressure.

US President Donald Trump posted on the social network Truth Social that he has just reached a trade agreement with Vietnam. Accordingly, Vietnam will be subject to a 20% tax on all goods imported into the US and 40% on goods in transit. This information may affect the flow of coffee trade between the two countries in the near future.

In the Arabica coffee market, the September contract continued to hit its lowest level since it was listed, while the nearest contract (N25) fell to its lowest in 7 1/2 months. Broker Michael J. Nugent said that weather in Brazil, the world's top Arabica producer, does not pose any threat at the moment, while record low global inventories are expected to be offset by a recovery in supply in the coming months. Harvesting in Brazil is proceeding quickly, with 31% of the coffee area harvested as of June 27, down from 42% a year ago, but dry weather forecasts over the next five days will accelerate the process.

In Indonesia, trade data shows that Sumatra, the main coffee-producing island, exported 567,603 bags of Robusta coffee in May, up 392.95% year-on-year. Cumulative exports in the first two months of the 2025-26 coffee crop year reached 807,342 bags, up 373.61% year-on-year. Favorable weather conditions and high Robusta futures prices were the main factors driving the surge in exports. However, brokerage ADM warned that Indonesia will soon need rain to protect its production potential, while some coffee growing areas in Vietnam are also experiencing drought.

In addition, Chinese coffee chain Luckin Coffee, which was founded in 2017 and has expanded to more than 22,000 stores in China, has just officially entered the US market with its first two stores in New York City. Luckin Coffee stands out with its innovative business model, focusing on ordering and delivery via an app, becoming a formidable competitor to Starbucks in China.

Overall, the coffee market today is under downward pressure due to rapidly increasing supply in Brazil and Indonesia, along with international political and trade fluctuations that need to be closely monitored in the next trading sessions.
