The Department of Roads is the investor of the project to renovate and upgrade 3 national highways in the West.

The Minister of Construction assigned the Vietnam Road Administration to be the investor of the project to renovate and upgrade three national highways 53, 62, and 91B in the West with a total investment of VND9,297 billion.

On July 10, the Minister of Construction issued a decision assigning the Vietnam Road Administration to be the investor of the project to renovate and upgrade three national highways 53, 62, and 91B to connect regions and adapt to climate change in the Mekong Delta region, using loans from the World Bank (WB).

According to the decision of the Minister of Construction, the project implementation period is from 2025 to 2030.

The Vietnam Road Administration is responsible for urgently preparing a project feasibility study report to submit to the Ministry of Construction for approval, as a basis for signing a loan agreement with the WB.

With the functions and tasks of the investor, the Vietnam Road Administration is responsible for coordinating with relevant units to carry out procedures for registering public investment capital plans for the project in accordance with the provisions of law.

Previously, on June 30, the Prime Minister approved the investment policy for the project of three national highways 53, 62 and 91B connecting regions and adapting to climate change in the Mekong Delta region, using WB loans.

This project aims to gradually complete the road network connecting the region according to the approved planning scale, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and ensuring national security and defense in the Mekong Delta region.

- With National Highway 53: The project is implemented within a 41km area in Vinh Long province with upgrading and renovation items: Nga Tu bridge; Long Ho - Ba Si section from km11+295 to km56+180, including construction of a new route to avoid the old town of Vung Liem and Cang Long, about 17.3km long.

- With National Highway 62: Renovate and upgrade about 69km in Tay Ninh province with the starting point at km4+200 (intersection with Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway), the end point at km74. Of which, build a new route to avoid the old Tan Thanh town, about 8km long.

- With National Highway 91B: Renovate and upgrade about 141km in Can Tho city and Ca Mau province. The scope of implementation is from km2+604 (Can Tho bridge intersection) to km143+480.

The scope of upgrading and renovating 3 national highways is to meet the standards of a grade III plain road, with a design speed of 80km/h, a 12m wide roadbed, and an 11m wide road surface.

The total investment of the project is 9,297 billion VND, equivalent to 385.66 million USD. Of which: WB loan capital is more than 262 million USD, counterpart capital is 2,975 billion VND (equivalent to 123.44 million USD) from the central budget.

The project implementation period is four and a half years from the date the loan agreement takes effect./.
