At the Ho Chi Minh City socio -economic press conference on the afternoon of July 10, Major General Nguyen Thanh Huong, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Police, said that Ho Chi Minh City currently has 1,132 apartment buildings. Of these, 239 apartment buildings and 341 blocks of houses were built before 1975, along with hundreds of other facilities built between 1975 and 2001, but many places are at risk of fire safety.

Doc Lap Residence is an old apartment building that has existed for decades. Many similar apartments have fire protection systems, but they have deteriorated and the equipment is damaged to the point of being unusable.

Meanwhile, most old apartment buildings do not have a maintenance fund to repair and replace fire protection equipment. The most serious problem today is that illegal expansion and cover-up is very common in old apartment buildings. Many residents arbitrarily expand and expand living space, increasing the risk of fire and hindering fire fighting and rescue work.

To prevent fires and explosions as much as possible, Major General Nguyen Thanh Huong said that even in the matter of accommodation and daily activities, it is necessary to manage flammable materials and heat sources. Assuming that when there is a fire, the source of flammable materials is small, the damage will be reduced... At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to illegal expansion and cover because it will obstruct escape routes and increase the risk of fire spreading.

"HCMC has many recommendations and fire prevention solutions for each area. For example, in residential areas, people are encouraged to equip themselves with fire extinguishers and automatic fire alarm systems. In residential and public areas, there must be on-site fire prevention models," said Major General Nguyen Thanh Huong.

According to the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department (PC07) - Ho Chi Minh City Police, serious fires often occur at night. Therefore, people need to be more vigilant, carefully check the power source and electrical equipment before going to bed.

PC07 recommends that people need to equip automatic fire alarms and fire fighting and initial escape means. In particular, for sealed "tiger cage" style houses, it is mandatory to have a second escape route to avoid serious consequences in case of fire. Every family needs to be trained in fire prevention and equipped with necessary equipment such as fire extinguishers, gas masks, rope ladders, etc.

Ho Chi Minh City Police advise people not to arbitrarily connect to power sources without ensuring safety. It is necessary to use electrical equipment and electrical wires with clear origin and ensure that they are suitable for the capacity to avoid overloading and causing unsafe situations.

People should regularly check the power supply wires for devices that have been used for a long time to see if they are safe and have appropriate replacement measures.

At the same time, when designing and constructing housing projects, it is necessary to strictly comply with fire safety regulations and ensure that there is an escape route in case of an incident. Any violation of fire safety regulations will be strictly handled according to the provisions of law.
