Over the past years, Mong Cai City has made many efforts to preserve and effectively promote the values of cultural heritage. Especially to attract tourists to spiritual tourist destinations and to be an attractive and safe destination for domestic and foreign tourists, Mong Cai has devoted many resources as well as promoted socialized resources to carry out the work of preserving, embellishing and effectively promoting the cultural and historical values of historical and cultural relics in the area.
At the end of June 2025, visitors to Tra Co beach (Mong Cai city) will not only be able to immerse themselves in the cool blue water but also experience the Tra Co communal house festival. Tra Co communal house festival is one of the unique festivals, imbued with the culture of the Northeast coastal region of the country, clearly demonstrating the lifestyle of Vietnamese people as well as the community lifestyle of solidarity, unity and mutual love. The festival has been restored and maintained annually since 1993. This year's festival is held for 4 days from June 25 to June 28 (ie May 30 - June 3 of the lunar calendar) with many rich and diverse activities to continue and promote the fine cultural traditions of our ancestors; widely propagate and promote the image of the land and people of Tra Co, Mong Cai, contributing to preserving and promoting the value of Mong Cai's cultural heritage. The ceremony includes: The procession of the palanquin welcoming the god on the sea, the bathing ceremony, the ceremony of carrying the fruit tray and the magic lamp into the communal house, the ceremony of welcoming the elephant to the communal house to pay respect to the god, the ceremony of inviting birth, the ceremony of installing the position; closing the funeral tree, calling the green book; the ceremony of removing the funeral tree, calling the list of new funeral gods; the ceremony of sending out the lantern, the ceremony of testing... The festival has many exciting activities, such as: the "Elephant" contest, blindfolded drumming, painting.
Along with Tra Co Communal House Festival, Binh Ngoc Communal House Festival also takes place from June 24 to June 26 (ie May 30 - June 2 of the lunar calendar) with many rich and diverse cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities, aiming to continue and promote the fine cultural traditions of our ancestors; widely propagate and promote the image of culture, beliefs and hospitable Binh Ngoc people. Binh Ngoc Communal House was formed along with the process of Binh Ngoc separating from Tra Co to establish Binh Ngoc commune in the early 20th century. Around 1910, Binh Ngoc Communal House was built. In 2020, Binh Ngoc Communal House Historical Relic was recognized as a provincial relic.
Mong Cai border area currently has 5 national relics: Tra Co communal house, Nam Tho pagoda, Xuan Lan pagoda, Xa Tac temple, Po Hen historical relic site and 9 provincial relics including: Trang Vi communal house, Van Ninh communal house, Bau communal house, Tran Phu hill, Thac Ma temple, Uncle Ho memorial site in Tra Co ward, the site of the first Communist Party cell of Mong Cai city, Binh Ngoc communal house, Quat Dong communal house. Two national-ranked intangible cultural heritages are Tra Co communal house festival, Hat nha to, hat - dance at communal house door... In Mong Cai area, there are currently annual festivals including: Van Ninh communal house festival, Lang Bau communal house festival, Dan Tien communal house festival, Xa Tac temple festival, Thanh Mau temple festival, Tra Co communal house festival, Dong Thinh communal house festival, Trang Vi communal house festival, Binh Ngoc communal house festival.
Since the beginning of the year, Mong Cai is truly an attractive destination not only for its unique tourism products but also for its cultural and spiritual destinations. People and tourists have come to burn incense, worship Buddha, and pray for peace at sacred places: Xa Tac Temple - Pagoda, Tra Co Communal House, Linh Son Pagoda, Xuan Lan Pagoda, etc. Along with traditional folk festivals, recently there have been more modern cultural festivals such as Mong Cai Summer Festival, Border Sim Flower Festival. The Border Sim Flower Festival is associated with community tourism development activities in Hai Son commune. Images of Dao and San Chi ethnic girls introducing and displaying agricultural products grown by their own people. Dao Thanh Y mothers teaching their children to embroider and sew, etc. have made tourists more interested in the unique cultural identity of their people.
Thanks to the good organization of festivals, the total number of tourists to Mong Cai in the first 6 months of 2025 will reach over 2.633 million, an increase of over 26% over the same period in 2024; revenue from tourism services will reach over 6,200 billion VND.
